Union Elementary School Mural | School Year 2026
Artwork by Kenneth Almiano

What was originally planned as a 3-day project became a 7-day journey filled with challenges, adjustments, and perseverance.

I began working on this mural on June 5–7, aiming to complete it by June 8. However, unpredictable weather conditions, the demanding location of the wall, and various unexpected circumstances made the process more difficult than anticipated. At the same time, I had to balance my responsibilities as an organization president, requiring me to travel back and forth to Tacloban on June 10 and 11 for important commitments.

Despite the delays and obstacles, every stroke of paint carried dedication, patience, and passion for art. Today, June 13, the mural is finally complete.

This artwork serves as a welcome to the new school year and as a reminder that meaningful work takes time, resilience, and commitment. Thank you to everyone who supported and understood the journey behind this project.

Paintbrush and Palette (Artist of the Year – Juniors Soirée 2026)

“A symbol entrusted to students who possess exceptional creativity, imagination, and artistic passion in transforming ideas into meaningful and inspiring works of art.”

Being chosen as one of the Bequeathals while also having the opportunity to personally craft these symbols is truly a meaningful and unforgettable milestone in my journey as an artist. I humbly dedicate this recognition to my three years of growth, learning, sacrifices, and experiences within my beloved university — a place that continuously shaped not only my skills and creativity, but also my passion and identity as an artist.

From simple ideas and small beginnings to creating works filled with purpose and meaning, I have witnessed how much I have grown throughout the years. This recognition serves as a reminder that art is more than expression; it is a reflection of dedication, perseverance, and the journey of becoming.

This year, I was also able to create and contribute to several Bequeathal Symbols in partnership with JCO, each one reflecting values, excellence, and identity:

Terpsichorean Gift – Grace, discipline, and storytelling through the beauty of dance.
Songbird – Harmony, passion, and the inspiring power of music and voice.
Torch of Education – Wisdom, enlightenment, and the guiding light of learning.
Key of Responsibility – Trust, accountability, and integrity in leadership.
Quill (An Lantawan) – Truth, expression, and the power of writing to inspire.
Laurel (enhanced design) – Academic excellence, perseverance, and achievement.
Sports (enhanced design) – Strength, discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Each symbol carries a story, not just of design, but of the students who will continue to uphold these values and legacies.

Thank you, JCO, for trusting my artistry, craftsmanship, and creative vision. It is an honor to be part of a tradition that celebrates excellence, legacy, and the spirit of our institution. This achievement will always hold a special place in my heart.
