The 14-Year-Old Who Saved 30 Classmates in Banga Shooting
A 14-year-old student is being praised as a hero after reportedly protecting around 30 classmates during the shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato.
On September 18, a 16-year-old Grade 9 student allegedly opened fire inside the school. The attack killed two students, while the teenage suspect also died. Several others were injured.
According to DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, the 14-year-old student acted quickly when the shooter approached their classroom.
The student reportedly kicked the shooter and used a chair to block the classroom door. This prevented the attacker from entering and gave around 30 classmates time to stay inside and seek safety.
The student was also reportedly injured after the suspect fired through a classroom window. Despite being hurt, he allegedly managed to hit the shooter’s hand during the confrontation.
Because of his actions, the student may have helped protect many of his classmates from further harm.
His name has not been publicly released. Since he is also a minor, authorities and news organizations are protecting his privacy.
Social workers are now providing psychosocial support to students, teachers, and families affected by the tragedy.
The incident has also raised serious questions about school safety, fi***rm storage, and how students can respond during emergencies.
Authorities continue to investigate the shooting, including how the suspect accessed the fi***rm and whether there were warning signs before the attack.
