๐ฃ๐๐ก๐๐๐ข๐ฃ๐: ๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ (2026)
This digital artwork is a recreation of the original poster I made for my comics anthology, PINILOPI. The original poster (PINILOPI, which I also called The Adventure of Pinilopi) was drawn using ink and graphite on bond paper, then digitized. It was first created during the pandemic lockdown, around September 2020. It has now been more than five years since then, and exactly a year since I began working on this digital recreation.
It all began when the first set of Pinilopi comics tragically flopped and received very low engagement on our campus publicationโs social media platform. They were simple, yet laden with political association and interpretation. After that setback, I decided to draw a borderline separating the previous set of comics from those yet to be created. This marked a reset, as well as a point of rediscovering a new artistic outlook, one that would make my work more digestible and relatable. Thus, the original poster found its way from my imagination onto the screens.
In creating it, I wanted a poster that would convey a sense of rampage, with traces of darkness, yet ultimately poke at oneโs funny bone, something that was eventually and successfully reflected throughout the comics anthology. Visually, the concept came to me quite randomly and naturally. I got the idea while making faces to imitate for future comics, standing in front of a cabinet mirror and holding a candle during a blackout. As I positioned the light source downward, it instantly captured the exact mood and visual I envisioned for the poster.
And to state the obviousโyes, just as God created Adam and Eve, I created PINILOPI in my own image.
I must say, however, in all seriousness, that both the original artwork and its digital recreation are personally significant, as they symbolize the revival of my creative persona. It holds immense value and meaning for me. Beyond that, it unapologetically offers a glimpse into the version of reality I inhabit within my mind. More importantly, recreating this piece is not merely about refining the original or correcting its imperfections. Rather, it reflects how I have grown, as a person and as an artist, and speaks to my journey toward self-discovery and creative self-actualization.
Lastly, folks, this art piece has been my curse breakerโonce before, and now once more.
