OBJET
FOR 2025
A Group Exploration

An object is nothing but function—until someone names it, gives it meaning, or remembers it. Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the weight a design carries lies in the hands of the artist. In this transformation, the ordinary becomes intimate. Form is no longer just structure—it becomes a canvas for emotion, a reflection of perspective, a holder of memory. In this space, function and expression do not compete—they coexist, creating something altogether more human.

From canvas to natural materials, artists have consistently utilized and explored various surfaces and textures beyond traditional media to express their creativity and challenge their artistic conventions. Crucial for their artistic growth and innovation, such exploration is an opportunity to expand creativity, unravel new styles, and ultimately enhance and deepen artistic expression.

For this special exploration-cum-exhibition, Exploratory Projects’ The Welcome Stool becomes the artist’s new canvas. A beautiful reimagination of a contemporary silhouette by its founder and designer, Gio Prado, it is carefully crafted using sustainable birch plywood, based on the principles of great design that push boundaries and break convention to create a fresh take on innovation and precision—exceeding expectations in every detail, measurement, and shape.

As a concrete creative response, eight in-house artists—namely Bruno (b. 2004, Baguio City), Christian Dy (b. 1996, Pampanga), Daniella Ybut (b. 2004, Metro Manila), Dineb Abella (b. 1997, Bulacan), Duncan de Guzman (b. 2004, Pampanga), John Darrel Evasco (b. 1998, Sorsogon), Kiko Urquiola (b. 1993, Bulacan), and Thirdy Montero (b. 2001, Metro Manila)—meticulously paint their visual narratives with an intentional 360-degree view, providing access to all sides of the artwork. As a result, each visual narrative becomes a more dynamic and distinct artistic voice.

True to vision and form, each Objet for 2025 is not just a standalone piece, but a continuing story contributing to a larger, overarching narrative that reflects each artist’s evolving exploration, development, and growth. Perhaps an allure to immortality, it is a deeply personal exploration beyond canvas that leads to each artist’s greater understanding of oneself and one’s evolving perspective.

Inspired by the simplicity of provincial fatherhood, he reimagined the art of storytelling for his little boy and started creating objects from home-made clay.

This form of storytelling led him to create still-life paintings of hand-sculpted clay objects which he would creatively position under the beautiful shadows of their backyard trees.

Using a muted contemporary palette, he paints his clay objects, positioned in interesting forms and movements, to capture the curiosity, innocence, and wonders of the provincial life he wishes his little boy to grow in.

Well-labored and persevering, his hands are used to creating things for others. In between job sites and raising his young family, he taught himself how to be an artist using oils.

A former construction worker, John Darrel Evasco, 36, is based in Irosin, Sorsogon.
