The event is an annual whole-day inter-high school and inter-collegiate academic symposium and competition for students who have great enthusiasm and pursuit in discovering and understanding the field of Landscape Architecture.
The name “Tuklas” is a Filipino term which means ‘to discover’ or ‘discovery’. The term used before on a different event (originally “Tuklas-UPCLAS”) where series of academic class sessions was held every week. Adopting the term relates to the main rationale of the event, which is to give new knowledge and awareness to the public about landscape architecture through the different lectures and activities.
Sharing the same goals and principles, three ‘CLAS’ organizations united together on the first event. These organizations came from three different universities nationwide, which are the University of the Philippines-Diliman (UPCLAS), Bulacan State University-Bulacan (CLAS BSU), and University of San Carlos-Cebu (USC CLAS).
Through TUKLAS, we aim to promote the Filipino landscape and impart the knowledge of landscape architecture’s role in preserving and enhancing experience of public spaces. The event hopes to inspire students to appreciate the said degree program and might as well consider as they venture closer towards college.
Objectives
To promote the field of Landscape Architecture;
To introduce basic landscape architectural design principles;
To provide means to apply landscape architecture in the daily lives of the audience;
To introduce solutions to sustainable environment development through design;
To introduce solutions to sustainable environment development through design;
To raise awareness on the various uses of landscape architectural design in the nurturing, maintaining, and developing the environment;
To raise awareness on the problems and issues on the Philippine landscape today;
To show the usefulness of the Landscape Architecture practice in the Philippines;
For its fifth year, TUKLAS 2020 : Enriching Quality Outdoor Environments gives focus on public and community art in Philippine landscapes as it envisions a quality outdoor environment offering inclusive opportunities especially for the children to learn in the outdoors and experience nature by integrating spaces through Landscape Architecture.
