This is one of three in a collection whose main character is an adorable spotted pig i saw on a recent walk. I imagined him roaming free, and thanked him and his companions for the service they were totally unaware they were providing (this country loves meat). Because they were all so cute, I pictured them born in the wild, living blissful lives away from domestication. I wished this paradox - relying on animal protein for nourishment while dreaming of autonomy for all creatures - didn’t exist. Apart from that, there was the guilt that comes with drawing creative fuel from another being’s demise, but where does art come from if not emotion?? Anyway, I reiterate my thanks to Spotted Pig for the birth of this new collection that celebrates a life he could have had instead, and the gift of his presence on earth.
In piece no. 1 he’s been set free by his friend. They rolled around in a field of flowers for fun.
