In 2019, a photograph from northern Thailand went viral, showing a young graduate standing in his academic gown beside his father, a farmer from Nan Province whose life was marked by hardship and sacrifice.

The student, Phisut Kireetharakul, grew up in poverty, losing his mother at birth and several siblings over time. His father, who later lost his speech and memory, could no longer even recognize him.

Despite this, the father sold nearly everything he had to support his son’s education. Phisut worked through school, faced financial struggles, and eventually graduated from university in Chiang Rai.

When he returned home, he wore his graduation gown and placed his degree in his father’s hands. As he spoke softly that he had finished school, his father smiled, capturing a moment of quiet sacrifice and achievement that resonated across Thailand.

From 1969 to 1972, astronauts left behind more than just equipment on the Moon—they left pieces of humanity.
A feather and hammer proving physics, a family photo from Earth, a fallen astronaut memorial, golf balls from a lunar swing, bags of human waste, and the first human footprints.
