FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION:

The large foliage and vining nature of Philodendron billietiae make it a highly sought-after wishlist houseplant. Philodendron billietiae showcases huge wavy green arrow-shaped leaves and elegant orangish stalks; a majestic houseplant! Caring for a Philodendron billietiae is quite easy, and it’s a great beginner indoor plant if you’ve got the space.

Philodendron Billietiae Origin and History

This Philodendron is a relatively new find. It was discovered in French Guiana in 1981 by Frieda Billiet (who it was then named after). It has since been found growing in Guyana and Brazil, as well.

In its natural habitat, Philodendron billietiae thrives in humid, tropical rainforests, where it grows in the mid-canopy. The leaves are glossy and massive, reaching 3-feet in length and 8 inches wide, though they usually don’t get quite that big indoors. Each leaf is vivid green and arrow-shaped, with ridged centers and wavy edges. They bow gracefully downwards as if they are nodding to you.

The stems of Philodendron billietiae are orange to orange-yellow to orange-red, long and slender. They grow from a central vine, with multiple branches arching outwards to unfurl the giant leaves. P.billietiae will grow quite tall, given the opportunity – the vines range from 3-5 feet long.

Since its first cultivation, several new forms have been grown, including a variegated P. billietiae and a dwarf variety.

FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION:

Alocasia Amazonica is a hybrid member of the scientific family Araceae popularly known to growers as aroids. Although at least one plant seller claims the plant is "Straight from the Rainforest to Your Home" when offering Alocasia Amazonica for sale (correctly pronounced alo-CAY-see-a) this plant has never existed in the rain forests of the Amazon or South America. It has never been observed naturally in any rain forest in the world.

Aroid grower John Banta and aroid writer and expert Julius Boos in West Palm Beach, FL were able to trace the hybrid to postman and nursery owner Salvadore Mauro who during the 1950's owned a now defunct nursery in Miami, FL. The nursery was known as the "Amazon Nursery" and Mauro named Alocasia Amazonica after his own business. The name has since been applied for almost 60 years to this popular hybrid bred from Asian parents but others have "borrowed" the name for use on other hybrids or modified the name for commercial purposes.

The title holder to some of the biggest horticultural myths in the world of aroids, Alocasia Amazonica is not a species, does not grow naturally in any native rain forest, is not from the Amazon and the name should never be used in either the italicized form or with single quotations since it is neither a published species nor a registered.

FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION:

Originating in subtropical Asia and eastern Australia, there are many varieties of Alocasia, from exotic types with striking color patterns and variation, to classically refined and elegant. FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION:

The pink Syngonium (Syngonium podophyllum) is also known as an arrowhead vine, arrowhead plant, goosefoot plant, five fingers, and Nephthytis. Whatever you call it, this plant is an easy-to-care-for member of the Syngonium genus and the Araceae family. It is native to parts of South America including Mexico, Ecuador, Brazil, and Bolivia.

It is a vining plant that can reach two to six feet tall and the vines can spread out to a circumference of at least two feet. Certain varieties are outliers in terms of height and width. While they can be grown outside in certain conditions, Syngonium podophyllums do well inside in pots and can also be grown in hanging baskets to show off their trailing vines. If you like, you can prune them to maintain a more bush-like shape. These plants can occasionally flower but they generally do not as houseplants. The arrowhead plant is also very good at purifying the air of pollutants.

This species comes in a number of colors, from green to white to pink and some varieties contain all three colors. It is the striking pink members of the Syngonium species that we will be focusing on in this article as well as specific ways that you can adjust their environment to bring out and maintain their beautiful colors.

FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION:

Philodendron Bob Cee is a very large-growing, stunning Aroid with distinctive, saw tooth-shaped leaves, which are lush green in colour. This gorgeous, rarely-offered Philodendron is not part of many collections yet, but a rising star in the Aroid world that many collectors would love getting their hands on!
Philodendron Bob Cee can grow giant in size with leaves reaching a size of up to 1.2 metres in length. It will reach this impressive size if you allow it to climb. Our Brass Plant Support would be perfect as a starter trellis for this Philodendron!
Philodendron Bob Cee is not only highly decorative, but also very easygoing and suitable for beginners! Philodendrons are by nature very adaptive to different light and water conditions. It is the perfect choice for a corner with low light and will forgive you of you forget to water. This is why they are very easygoing and rewarding houseplants for both beginners and more seasoned plant parents!
Philodendron Bob Cee is a hybrid by the late Bob Cee. Since it was only discovered after his death, no-one knows its parentage or if he had a name for it already. It was consequently named after him.
Grow your Philodendron in a well draining potting mix, like our Aroid Mix or in a soil-less medium like sphagnum moss or perlite/vermiculite.

FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION:

The exotic Philodendron warszewiczii is native to the pacific coast of Central Americas along Mexico, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras. According to the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, the species occurs usually on rocks in dry rain forests.

The leaves of this large tropical ground runner are bipinnatifid. This means the leaf blades are deeply divided and each division is further divided into pinnules.

Altogether they resemble feathers and are less leathery than many other fellow species. The stems are thick and stout.

FROM OUR OWN PRIVATE COLLECTION:

Philodendron “Prince of Orange” is a stunning thing of beauty in the world of philodendrons. It belongs to the large Araceae family of tropical forest dwellers. But this specific exotic plant is a hybrid that you won’t find in a natural environment.

Tropical gardeners who grow Philodendron “Prince of Orange” all claim that this species is truly a showstopper.

Rightly so. The leaves of this plant unfurl with a deep orange-bronze hue, turning salmon as they get bigger and golden as more time lapses. Finally, a fully grown leaf turns light green gradually taking a darker hue with age.
