Flowerhorn is a cichlid ornamental aquarium fish. They are very popular for their vivid color but most of all, the distinctively shaped head called the “nuchal hump” or "Kok" for which they are named. Flowerhorns were first developed in Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan. They are very popular with Asian fish hobbyists and are also kept by hobbyists in the US and Europe.
THE KING KAMFA FLOWERHORN
The King Kamfa Flowerhorn is considered the most expensive flowerhorn strain as of the moment. They are from the Kamfa breed/family. King Kamfas as we call them, has white or yellow sunken eyes, although red eyes are also possible but very rare. Some features also include an intense double black flower row along the lateral line and a very thick white pearl on the whole fish’s body.
“Flowerhorn is said to bring its owner lots of prosperity, luck, and good fortune in everything ranging from wealth and fame to love and happiness. Those real hobbyists and fish lovers will even stretch their hands into the tank and play with the Luo Han, which behaves just like a little puppy.”
SELECTING THE BEST FLOWERHORN FISH
Do not buy a sick fish! The fish must be active, aggressive, and alert. Sometimes, you can play with it with your fingers in front of the tank. Observe the fish’s colors really well. Some flowerhorns show really bright red coloration. The more redness on the Lou Han, the better.
The body of the fish must be thick and squared to represent the strong Earth Element and stability. Finally, the flower markings or “plums” must be black and very distinct so that you can “see” its lucky numbers as what most keepers believe.
Thick pearls on the fish’s body are also recommended. The thicker the pearls the pricier the fish becomes.
