The Philippine music industry is full of talented people.

What it often lacks are the support systems, opportunities, mentorship, creative collaboration, and artist development needed to help talent grow into sustainable careers.

At Matt Murillo Studios (MMS), we're working to change that.

Through music production, artist development, branding, education, mentorship, live performance initiatives, and community-building programs, we help artists move from development to release, promotion, performance, and long-term growth.

This is brand equity.

I paid over ₱3k for this vinyl including shipping.

I could’ve just listened to the album on Spotify or YouTube.

But I wanted a piece of Michael Jackson memorabilia present in my studio because I love what the artist’s identity represents.

A relentless determination towards greatness, but also a lesson in balancing ambition with presence, because ambition and success all come at a cost.

The album art was giving.
The packaging and disc labels though… were giving bootleg GH Divisoria energy 😭

The music industry romanticizes “X Factor.”

A vibe.
An aura.
An instinct.

But most industries eventually discover that what looks like instinct is often pattern recognition without structure.

After training and excelling in both of the Philippines’ leading music production and international MBA programs, I began looking at artist development differently.

Because once capital enters the equation, entertainment changes.

Art becomes capital allocation under uncertainty.
Production costs money.
Marketing costs money.
Touring costs money.
Infrastructure costs money.

And advances against future royalties are not grants.
They are bets on future commercial performance.

Yet despite this, much of the industry still evaluates artists through:
anecdotes
relationships
intuition
“may X factor siya”
“it’s a vibe”

The Philippines does not have a talent problem.

It has an infrastructure problem.

At Matt Murillo Studios, one of the ideas we’ve been exploring is whether commercial viability can be broken down into measurable dimensions.

Streaming behavior.
Audience retention.
Growth velocity.
Engagement quality.
Monetization efficiency.
Ex*****on discipline.

Different signals.

Same question:
Which artists are actually scalable?

Not to eliminate intuition.
But to reduce unmanaged randomness.

Because the future of entertainment will increasingly belong to organizations that make better decisions under uncertainty.

Not perfect decisions.
Better ones.

Of course, culture will never behave like a perfectly rational system.
Virality is nonlinear.
Consumer behavior shifts quickly.
And many of the most valuable datasets remain privately owned.

But neither are venture capital, sports analytics, nor financial markets perfectly predictable.

Yet structured systems still outperform unmanaged intuition over time.

That is the direction we are exploring at Matt Murillo Studios:
the intersection of:
creativity
analytics
systems thinking
artist development
and strategic infrastructure.

Because talent creates attention.
Infrastructure sustains relevance.

The Philippines has the talent.
The next challenge is building systems that help talent consistently cut through noise at scale.

Why Streams Aren’t Enough.

A lot of artists think high streams automatically mean you can go full-time with music.

But streams alone usually aren’t enough.

Most sustainable music careers are built through multiple layers:
live shows,
branding,
content,
community,
services,
audience trust,
and long-term demand.

Streams create visibility.

But visibility alone doesn’t always create stability.
