Recently, I had the wonderful opportunity to conduct a week-long Mezzotint Workshop at the Art Conservation Department, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS), Mumbai. CSMVS

It was a really enjoyable and enriching experience to spend the week with such an enthusiastic group, sharing, learning, experimenting, and having many interesting conversations around mezzotint and printmaking.

I’m grateful to the Art Conservation Department, CSMVS, it was truly a wonderful experience, and I’m thankful to everyone who participated and made the week so memorable.

A special thanks to Medwa Tools for providing the essential tools required for the workshop, including Mezzotint Rockers, Scrapers, and Rocking Jigs, which supported the successful conduct of the workshop.

Sharing a few glimpses from the week for now, more photos and videos from the workshop coming soon! ✨

Grateful to be part of .p.e.i ✨
It’s a wonderful experience to receive such a beautiful portfolio of prints from national and international printmakers. Each work carries a different voice, technique, and story, reflecting the richness of the printmaking community. Programs like this truly bring artists together through the exchange of ideas and prints. Thank you to BPEI for this thoughtful initiative❇️

Vinay Gusain is an artist and printmaker whose practice centres on intaglio techniques such as aquatint and mezzotint.
Beyond his studio work, Gusain has contributed to the material practice of printmaking in India by developing a mezzotint rocker through his company, Medwa Tools. Traditionally available only as an imported product costing approximately Rs 24,000, his locally produced version is priced at about half, increasing access for artists.
His recent artworks engage with themes of marginalisation—whether shaped by social structures, economic realities, or inner conflict—expressed without the need for descriptive environments or objects.
