Vinay Gusain is an artist and printmaker whose practice centres on intaglio techniques such as aquatint and mezzotint.
Beyond his studio work, Gusain has contributed to the material practice of printmaking in India by developing a mezzotint rocker through his company, Medwa Tools. Traditionally available only as an imported product costing approximately Rs 24,000, his locally produced version is priced at about half, increasing access for artists.
His recent artworks engage with themes of marginalisation—whether shaped by social structures, economic realities, or inner conflict—expressed without the need for descriptive environments or objects.

It was truly a pleasure conducting the Linocut workshop and witnessing such enthusiasm and dedication from all the students . A big thank you to Dr. Tikendra Sir and the faculty team for their support and seamless organization. I am honoured to serve & share my skills at SDVA, APJ Stya University

On Day 4, students focused on refining their linoleum carvings while also learnt about other printmaking techniques. They gained insights into intaglio methods like drypoint, etching, aquatint, and mezzotint, deepening their understanding of printmaking while perfecting their own linocut works.

Day 5 was the most exciting as students finally printed their works! Using Baren, they carefully transferred their carved image onto paper, experiencing the hand printing process. Seeing their hard work come to life as finished prints was a moment of joy and accomplishment. The workshop concluded with a display of their works and certificate distribution.

Day 3 of the Linocut Printmaking Workshop at Apeejay Stya University. We explored the intricate works of Albrecht Dürer, the elegance of Japanese Ukiyo-e prints, and their influence on Western art. The discussion also goes into German Expressionism and the bold, emotive prints of the Die Brücke Movement, highlighting the power of line and texture in storytelling.

In the hands on session, participants refined their carving techniques, learning to handle tools effectively and create depth in their prints. Through live demonstrations, they practiced tracing, carving, and experimenting with textures, bridging historical insights with practical skills.
