Bilang pagalala kay 𝐒𝐔𝐄 𝐏𝐑𝐀𝐃𝐎, we will have a tribute screening ng mga Gawad Alternatibo films na kanyang ginanapan, at marinig ang short mensahe mula sa Prado Family.

The commitment of Marissa Sue Mera Prado (†), o mas kilala bilang "Sue Prado," to culture extended beyond stages and screens. Bilang artist at advocate, she bridged communities, encourage dialogue, and bring important stories closer to the people.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 '𝙒𝙃𝙄𝙏𝙀 𝙁𝙐𝙉𝙀𝙍𝘼𝙇' 👏

After the screening of the experimental film ‘𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹’ by Direk Sari Dalena at the Ortigas Art Festival, audiences were invited to a meaningful conversation on the story behind the film.

‘𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹’ is a dance film that reflects on grief, memory, and resilience in the wake of tragedy, using movement as a powerful language to tell stories of loss and healing.

During the talkback, Direk Sari shared that ‘𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹’ was born from witnessing the aftermath of the Mt. Pinatubo eruption. The displacement of communities inspired her to create a film that reflects not only loss, but also remembrance, resilience, and healing through movement.

Producer Toti Reyes joined Direk Milo Tolentino during the talkback at the National Library of the Philippines and shared a simple yet valuable reminder for aspiring storytellers:

"You don't need to do drama. Mas mahirap pa nga ang magpatawa."

He encouraged everyone to write about what they know, then give it a twist. After all, the stories that leave the deepest impact are often the ones rooted in honesty, heart, and a fresh perspective.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗔 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 ‘ 𝙋 ‘ 💡

Direk Milo Tolentino shared the creative process behind ‘ 𝙋 ‘, particularly how the film's playful composition and storytelling were inspired by words beginning with the letter "P."

‘ 𝙋 ‘ follows the mischievous adventures of a young boy and his intimidating Auntie Pekta during one unforgettable summer, blending humor, imagination, and childhood curiosity into a story that lingers long after it ends.

Interestingly, ‘ 𝙋 ‘ received both the 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗝𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲 and the 𝗔𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 at the 2010 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

Moments like these remind us that even the simplest ideas can become unforgettable stories.

For years, Dir. JL Burgos and his family documented their search for Jonas Burgos without knowing it would one day become '𝗔𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗼𝗴'. During the talkback session at the Ortigas Art Festival, he shared how those years of documentation eventually found their way onto the screen, transforming personal records into a film that continues to bear witness to truth, memory, and resilience.

“Ang mahalaga yung documentation, not documentary. Source lang kami ng source, shoot lang kami nang shoot. Hindi namin objective at that time na gagawa kami ng documentary. Later on, na-realize ko na hindi ko lang ito basta documentation. Alam kong gagawin ko na siyang pelikula. I was really looking for a happy ending.... kaso, wala e...”

Cinema preserves stories. Documentation preserves history.

One of the questions that inspired CINEMARTYRS was the search for the forgotten women pioneers of Philippine cinema and a reflection on the histories that continue to shape us.

During the Talkback Session at the Ortigas Art Festival 2026, Director Sari Dalena reflected on the personal journey behind the film, sharing:

“In 2025, I think I’m ready to tell the story—to close and to heal, to fully recover, and also to teach and share with aspiring documentary filmmakers.”

More than revisiting history, Cinemartyrs is a journey of remembrance, healing, and sharing these stories with future generations.

In a Talkback Session at the Ortigas Art Festival 2026, 'Kono Basho' Director Jaime Pacena II shares the heartfelt symbolism of deers reflected in the film.

While the idea of deer as “spirit guides” is a fictional element he created for the world of Ella and Reina, it was inspired by his own experiences in Rikuzentakata, where seeing deer always felt magical—as if they were trying to show or tell him something.

Sometimes, the stories we create begin with moments that simply make us wonder.
