What is MusikaPilipinas?
MusikaPilipinas is a government-funded research project aimed at forming a foundational understanding of the Philippine music industry, recently launched an online survey among music practitioners in the country. MusikaPilipinas is hopeful that by getting as many responses as possible from different individuals working in the local industry or whose work is related to music, the project will get a better idea of what the industry needs and how to support its rise to become a major economic contributor.
It is no secret that the Philippines is rife with musically talented people. Yet despite this, the industry is often overlooked during crucial discussions and future planning by the government as to which industries can be improved to help develop the country’s economy.
MusikaPilipinas is designed to fill this gap. This research project was started in support of the creative industries bill in the Philippine Congress filed by Cong. Christopher “Toff” de Venecia. Its primary purpose is to take a very close look at the local music industry and to find out what would help it grow to be at par with foreign counterparts and how to protect it from foreign competition.
MusikaPilipinas is looking for Filipinos and foreigners working in the Philippine music industry to answer the survey. MusikaPilipinas wants to know about the experiences of people in the industry, the challenges they face, and how they should be supported by the government.
