HIS SIGNATURE ART STYLES
*"Badonism"
Philipp Badonโs artistic language evolved beautifully over his decades-long career, blending multiple international movements with distinct Filipino cultural narratives:
* Post-Impressionistic Fauvism: He was celebrated for utilizing highly concentrated, non-naturalistic color palettes. His canvas choices favored high-intensity neon-adjacent primaries, creating electric energy that mimicked a lively tropical spirit.
* "Pecan Faces" & Picasso-esque Forms: Critics and peers easily recognized a Badon piece by his facial structures, colloquially termed "pecan faces." Influenced deeply by early Cubism and Pablo Picasso's deconstructive mask-like forms, Badon painted elongated, exaggerated lines and curves. However, unlike the darker, anxious undercurrents of European Cubism, Badon's subjects retained inherently "soulful eyes" and a bright, joyful disposition.
* Indigenous and Aboriginal Influences: Early in his career, exposure to indigenous tribal crafts as the gallery manager at the Galleria de las Islas profoundly affected his patterns. Later, spending a year in Australia deeply exposed him to Aboriginal art, leading him to adopt fluid earth motifs and rhythmic compositions.
* The "Pandemic Art Burst": Later in his life during COVID-19 lock-downs, his spontaneous velocity manifested into abstract expressionismโsplattering dramatic textures and chaotic, passionate color fields to process the global climate.
