Jesus actually warned us that people like this would exist.
“Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”
— Matthew 7:15
Think about that.
Jesus didn't tell us there would never be wolves among the sheep.
He warned us to WATCH FOR THEM.
And just a verse later He tells us how:
“You will know them by their fruits.” — Matthew 7:16
A pulpit doesn’t make someone a Christian.
The title “Pastor” doesn’t make someone a Christian.
Knowing Scripture doesn’t make someone a Christian.
That's exactly the kind of thing Jesus warned us about.
And don't allow someone else's wickedness to become your excuse for staying away from God.
If you've been hurt by a church, find a biblically sound church.
If a pastor twists Scripture, open your Bible and check,
If something being taught doesn't line up with Scripture, ask questions.
If someone tells you that questioning them means you're questioning God, that should immediately concern you.
We are supposed to have discernment.
But there's a tremendous difference between discernment and using the worst example you can find as justification for walking away from the whole thing.
There are bad pastors.
There are false teachers.
There are hypocrites sitting in churches.
There are people carrying the name Christian whose lives look nothing like Christ.
Jesus already told us there would be.
So don't judge Jesus by someone who doesn't look like Jesus.
Don't blame Scripture because somebody twisted it.
Don't blame the church because somebody abused his position in one.
And most importantly, don't let another person's sin become the excuse that keeps you from following Christ.
Because at the end of the day,
You'll answer for what YOU did with Jesus.
Don't blame the Shepherd for the wolf.
