i was dreaming last night and this was my dream
I got kidnapped and they put you in a room. They explained the two buttons the red one and the green one. The red button can instantly kill your whole family, but it will save 500 million people. The green button can save your whole family, but it will instantly kill a billion strangers tonight. There’s no other option.
The first person said, I would choose the red button. Maybe I can be a hero to the people I saved. It’s just utilitarianism millions of lives over five is basic math. But then I realized that’s not heroism, that’s greed.
I would press the green button every time. A billion strangers over the people who fed me, took care of me when I was sick, and made me feel that love exists for a reason I can’t choose strangers over them. I’d rather be seen as a villain by a billion people. I don’t care how they see me and act towards me. T important is my family is doing well
