The MonCAST Art Club is putting creativity into action as we prepare for the upcoming Acquaintabo Fair 5.0 this Tuesday, August 18, 2026. As part of our preparations, the members of MAC gathered at Bagani 102 to work on and prepare our booth for the celebration.

Through teamwork, creativity, and shared ideas, each member contributed to the preparation of the booth, from arranging materials and creating decorations to ensuring that every detail reflects the spirit of the Art Club. These efforts showcase how simple ideas can come together through collaboration and dedication.

As we look forward to Acquaintabo 5.0, we are excited to share the creativity and effort that our members have put into making our booth a meaningful part of the celebration.

T’nalak Weaving — Lang Dulay

Lang Dulay’s T’nalak is a traditional T’boli textile made from abaca fibers and woven by hand. Her designs feature intricate geometric patterns and symbols inspired by nature and dreams. The black, red, and white patterns reflect T’boli culture, beliefs, and heritage. Dulay was known as a “Dreamweaver” because many traditional designs were inspired by dreams.

‎Manunggul Jar: A Journey to the Afterlife
‎Some of the Philippines' most remarkable artworks come from thousands of years ago. One of these is the Manunggul Jar, an ancient burial jar discovered inside Manunggul Cave in Lipuun Point, Palawan.
‎
‎The Manunggul Jar is more than an ancient piece of pottery—it is a beautiful representation of the beliefs, creativity, and spiritual life of early Filipinos.
‎
‎The jar is decorated with intricate designs, but its most famous feature is the lid, which shows two human figures riding a boat. The boat is believed to symbolize the journey of the soul toward the afterlife, reflecting the ancient belief that death was a journey to another world.

‎How was it made?
‎The Manunggul Jar was carefully crafted from clay by ancient Filipino artisans. Its body was shaped and decorated by hand, while the detailed figures and patterns show the remarkable artistic skills of the people who created it thousands of years ago.
‎
‎Why did they make it?
‎The jar was used as a secondary burial vessel, meaning it was used to hold the remains of a deceased person after the initial burial. Its boat-and-figures design reflects ancient beliefs about death, the soul, and the journey to the next life.

‎Why is it significant?
‎The Manunggul Jar is recognized as a National Cultural Treasure of the Philippines. It serves as an important evidence of the artistic ability and spiritual beliefs of early Filipinos. More than an archaeological artifact, it connects us to the way our ancestors understood life, death, and the afterlife.

Leonora Carrington (1917–2011)

Leonora Carrington was a British-Mexican surrealist painter and writer known for her mysterious, dreamlike artworks. Her paintings often featured mythical creatures, animals, magic, and mystical landscapes. Influenced by Celtic mythology and Surrealism, she developed a unique style that explored dreams, transformation, and the supernatural. She spent much of her life in Mexico, where she became an important figure in the country's surrealist art scene.

𝑮𝑼𝑬𝑹𝑵𝑰𝑪𝑨
𝒃𝒚 𝑷𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒐 𝑷𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒔𝒐 (𝟏𝟖𝟖𝟏–𝟏𝟗𝟕𝟑)

“Guernica” was painted on oil canvas, a massive mural-sized work created in response to the bombing of the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Commissioned for the Spanish Republic’s pavilion at the 1937 Paris International Exposition, it uses a stark palette of only black, white, and gray evoking the immediacy and truth of newspaper photography.

Picasso takes his inspiration from the real tragedy of April 26, 1937, when N**i German and Fascist Italian air forces destroyed the defenseless civilian town in a merciless three-hour attack. The composition shows the horror of war through fragmented, overlapping figures: a screaming horse in the center, a mother weeping over her dead child on the left, a silent bull standing apart, and a terrified woman reaching out from the right. Sharp, broken shapes and distorted forms replace realistic detail, capturing the chaos, pain, and disorientation of violence. Even the light of a single lamp held high resembling an eye watching over the destruction. The subject of the painting, which condemns war and the suffering it inflicts on innocent people, was driven by Picasso’s own outrage and desire to expose the truth to the world.

𝑫𝑰𝑫 𝒀𝑶𝑼 𝑲𝑵𝑶𝑾?💰🎨

Leonardo da Vinci's 𝑺𝒂𝒍𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒐𝒓 𝑴𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒊 made history after selling for an astonishing 𝟒𝟓𝟎.𝟑 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒐𝒏 in 2017, making it the most expensive painting ever sold at auction.

Here's the plot twist. In 1958, the painting was sold for only £45 (about $72) because it was believed to be just a copy made by one of Leonardo's students. Decades later, experts authenticated it as an original masterpiece, completely changing its place in art history.

Investigative reports later revealed that the painting was 𝒑𝒖𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒐𝒏 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒍𝒇 𝒐𝒇 𝑺𝒂𝒖𝒅𝒊 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒂'𝒔 𝑪𝒓𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝑷𝒓𝒊𝒏𝒄𝒆, 𝑴𝒐𝒉𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒊𝒏 𝑺𝒂𝒍𝒎𝒂𝒏. Until today, its exact location remains unknown, making one of the world's most valuable artworks even more mysterious.
