Saturday mornings at JKA. 🥋🔥

While most people are enjoying a slow weekend, our karatekas are busy sharpening their minds, strengthening their bodies, and building the discipline that lasts far beyond the dojo.

Every punch, every kick, every kata, and every drop of sweat is a step toward becoming stronger, better, and more resilient.

No shortcuts. No excuses. Just consistent work, one Saturday at a time.

Proud of every student who showed up today and gave their best. Keep grinding, keep learning, and keep growing.

Thank you for your unwavering love, support, patience, and sacrifices for our young karatekas. Your encouragement helps shape strong, disciplined, and respectful children.
In karate, we say “on and off the tatami.”

Tatami is the training mat where students learn discipline and respect — lessons they carry into everyday life.

“She is clothed with strength and dignity…” — Proverbs 31:25

Learning some basics.
Ossu!

Basic of karate 💯
1. Sensei — “The one who walked the path before you.”*
In every true dojo, the Sensei is more than a black belt. The Sensei is a teacher who trains the mind and builds character, just as the image says. _Sensei_ literally means “one born before” — not in age, but in experience. They carry the weight of the lineage on their shoulders: every technique, every kata, every drop of sweat from the masters before them. In Kyokushin, Sensei doesn’t just correct your _mawashi geri_. Sensei watches how you bow, how you endure, how you treat your kohai. Their job is to forge spirit through hardship, because real karate begins when the body wants to quit. When Sensei speaks, you listen — not out of fear, but because their path proves the way is possible.

2. Senpai — “The bridge between student and master.”*
The Senpai is not Sensei yet, but they’re no longer just Kohai. Senpai is a role model who leads by example, living proof that the journey works. Wearing a brown belt, they’ve felt the same blisters, failed the same gradings, and stood through the same _kiai_ until their throat burned. That’s why Kohai trust them. Senpai translates Sensei’s lessons into action: cleaning the dojo without being asked, pairing with nervous white belts, taking the first hit in _kumite_ to show it won’t kill you. In Kyokushin, we say Senpai has one foot in the student world and one in the teacher world. Their duty is simple — make the path easier for the ones coming behind them.

3. Kōhai — “The future of the dojo.”*
Every Sensei was once Kōhai. Every champion started as a white, yellow, or orange belt sitting nervous in _seiza_, just like these three. Kōhai are new students who learn, grow, and carry the spirit forward. They don’t know the kata yet. They don’t have the stamina yet. But they have the most important thing: _shoshin_ — beginner’s mind. In Kyokushin, Kōhai earn respect not by winning, but by showing up, bowing properly, and getting up one more time than they fall. Their job is to absorb like a sponge, endure like bamboo, and trust the process. Today they follow. Tomorrow, they become the Senpai that new kids look up to. That’s how the dojo stays alive for 100 years.

*Respect* your Sensei for the path. *Learn* from your Senpai’s example. *Grow* as Kōhai with humility. *Inspire* others when your turn comes.
