Do video games make kids violent? No, they don't.
It's a debate as old as the medium itself. We heard it in the early 2000s, we still hear it today, and every time a violent incident happens, video games somehow find themselves back in that convo.
The problem is that the claim simply isn't supported by decades of research. Study after study has failed to establish a meaningful causal link between playing video games and committing real-world violent acts. If anything, the scientific consensus points to a far more complicated picture than the simplistic "games cause violence" narrative ever suggests.
What makes this discussion frustrating is how often it distracts from deeper issues.
Blaming video games is easy. It creates a convenient villain. It shifts attention away from the REAL social, economic, cultural, and political factors that shape behavior in the Philippines.
If you ask me, the real question isn't whether video games make people violent. It's whether we've become too comfortable with violence itself.
