One of the things we love most about being an orchestra is collaborating with artists from different musical worlds.

For 100 years, the Manila Symphony Orchestra has shared the stage with musicians across genres, from classical music to OPM, bringing new sounds and new audiences together.

This October 25, we're excited to join Silent Sanctuary as they celebrate 24 years of music at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, under the direction of Paolo Valenciano.

Get your tickets at SM Tickets. See you there!

ABOUT THE ARTIST | Jason Marquez, clarinet 💎

Described by Vera Files as “a highly intelligent musician and a very intense and passionate
artist,” clarinetist Jason Marquez has distinguished himself as both performer and educator. He began his musical studies at age twelve and earned his Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Andrews University, where he was awarded the Dare to Dream Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship for exceptional music majors. He later completed his Master of Music in Clarinet Performance at East Texas A&M University, serving as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and expanding his studies to include bass clarinet.

Jason has held principal clarinet positions with the Andrews University Wind Symphony under
Dr. Byron Graves, the Andrews University Symphony Orchestra with Dr. Chris Wild and Dr.
Marc Elysee, and the East Texas A&M University Wind Ensemble under Prof. Philip Clements
and Prof. Garth Gundersen. He has also appeared as a guest musician with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra.

He is a two-time winner of the Andrews University Young Artist Competition (2019, 2022) and the overall winner of the East Texas A&M University Concerto Competition (2025). That same year, he was named one of only twelve semi-finalists in the International Clarinet Association’s Young Artist Competition at ClarinetFest 2025 in Fort Worth, Texas.

As an educator, Jason is committed to nurturing young musicians. He has served on the faculty
of the Philippine Youth Symphonic Band Summer Camp and offers workshops and
masterclasses for community bands in the Philippines.

Thank you so much Fringe Magazine! 💎

Representing the American tradition are Artie Shaw's “Concerto for Clarinet”, featuring Jeanne's older brother, Jason Marquez, a Filipino-American principal clarinetist in Michigan and Texas; and George Gershwin's "Porgy and Bess: A Symphonic Picture for orchestra", arranged by Robert Russell Bennett. Together, these works showcase the breadth of American music, drawing from jazz, popular music, and the symphonic tradition.

ABOUT THE ARTIST | Jeanne Marquez, violin 💎

Jeanne Marquez is a Filipina violinist who earned her Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School in New York City in May 2026. This August, she will begin the next stage of her artistic journey as an incoming Master of Music student in Violin Performance at Juilliard, where she continues to be a scholar of both The Juilliard School and Standard Insurance under its In Pursuit of Excellence program.

Her artistry has been recognized through numerous achievements, including golden medalist of the 2024 Vienna International Music Competition, bronze medalist of the 2023 Singapore International Music Competition, 2023 Ani ng Dangal Awardee, 1st prize winner in the 2022 New York Laureate International Music Competition, winner of the 2022 New York Young Performers Prize Competition, and 1st prize winner of the 2018 National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) Junior Strings Category.

She began studying violin at the age of six and in 2014 became one of the youngest founding members of the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO), where she served as concertmaster from 2019 to 2021. She also led the orchestra during its 3rd European concert tour in July 2024, where MSJO won the Gold Prize and Grand Prix at the Bratislava International Music Festival in Slovakia, and First Place with Outstanding Success in the String Orchestra Category at the Summa Cum Laude International Music Festival in Vienna, Austria.

In 2019, she made her major orchestral debut with the Manila Symphony Orchestra in the season concert Sibelius & Beethoven’s 5th, under the baton of Filipino-Finnish conductor Tarmo Peltokoski. Pablo Tariman of the Philippine Daily Inquirer praised her “solid and refined tone” and her “exceptional rapport with the orchestra” (Oct. 21, 2019). In 2024, she performed Brahms’ Violin Concerto in Brahms Violin Concerto & Tchaikovsky, where Antonio C. Hila of InquirePlus wrote, “Marquez was the toast of the evening… She surged through the three-movement work and eloquently displayed a virtuosity of high order, combining both technical prowess and mature disposition” (Sept. 4, 2024). In 2025, she appeared in A Night in Hollywood performing Por Una Cabeza, with Edmund Dennis Ladaw of TheDiarist.PH noting, “Ms. Marquez played it with fiery passion. If the tango dancers made the song look sexy, Ms. Marquez made it sound intensely sexy” (July 4, 2025).
