"A Trace of Eden" will be on view from September 10-21, 2026 at Galleria Nicolas Greenbelt. š
"A Trace of Eden" brings together the works of William Alvarez Jr. and Je Bon Baz in a quiet yet compelling meditation on place, memory, and the human impulse to search for an imagined state of harmony.
Placed in dialogue, their works reveal two distinct approaches to the idea of Eden. It is not presented here as a fixed paradise or untouched refuge, but as something more elusiveāa place remembered, imagined, fragmented, and continually reconstructed. In Alvarez's abstractions, it emerges through suggestion and ambiguity; in Jebonbaz's landscapes, it surfaces through atmosphere, nostalgia, and the fleeting beauty of the everyday.
The title suggests that what remains of such a place may not be the place itself, but its imprint: a sensation, a memory, a particular light, or a fragment of experience that persists long after the moment has passed. The exhibition therefore asks us to consider how landscapes become internalized, and how artists translate these personal geographies into images that can resonate beyond their specific origins.
Though their practices differ in form and temperament, both artists share an attentiveness to their surroundings and to the ways place shapes perception. Their works move between the recognizable and the abstract, the remembered and the immediate, the physical and the imagined. Together, they propose landscape as an evolving psychological spaceāone that is as much constructed by memory and feeling as it is by geography.
šThe gallery is located at 3F, Greenbelt 5, Legazpi Street, Makati City.
