In 𝘶𝘯/𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨, Nicole Bitas positions her figures within ordinary, transitional spaces, with postures that feel conspicuously staged as if performing for an unseen camera. By systematically cropping out their faces, she strips away individual identity to expose the silent, collective anxiety of constantly performing our lives.

a preview of June Digan’s pieces for her upcoming solo show this July

June Digan is a designer and illustrator specializing in traditional and digital mediums. A graduate of Fine Arts and Design majoring in advertising arts at the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, June’s work focuses on moods, emotions, and storytelling using delicate characters, whimsical landscapes, and lettering. She specializes in digital and traditional mediums such as watercolors, gouache, and acrylic. Her works have been featured in various exhibitions, such as Art Osaka, design blogs, and print publications.

Today, she works as an independent graphic designer and illustrator. She has served as a member of the Jury for ADC Young Guns 18 and the New York Festival’s Bowery Awards 2020. June’s clients include Hewlett-Packard, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Chewy, Toblerone Asia, Facebook PH, and Embassy of the Philippines Berlin, amongst many others.

A glimpse of Ciane Xavier in her studio as she adds the final touches to her artworks

Ciane Xavier’s sculptures teeter between the charming and grotesque, the familiar and unfamiliar. At first, her human figures would come across as benign; they possess ideal proportions, their skin pearl white and tinted with sanguine hues. But one need not take a second look to see the anomalies: the animal headdress, the enlarged brain at the base, and the head caught in the middle of morphing into another being.

This process of transitioning between states lies at the heart of Xavier’s art practice. Having traveled and lived in more than 14 countries in her teens, she is aware that no condition or form is final. So in her projects, she explores the inevitable evolution of both living and nonliving, mining the possibilities of the human body and psyche, all the while alert in what is often lost in translation. As much as her works are about the mutable human nature, Xavier also broods over the society at large, which is in constant flux too.

Ciane Xavier will have a solo show this July.

coming soon at Galerie Stephanie: the solo show Nicole Bitas

Nicole Bitas (b. 1999) is a visual artist who explores the unspoken connections between others, oneself, and spaces. She primarily paints figures whose faces are hidden or cropped out of the frame, stripping away immediate cues for expression and relying solely on colors and the subtleties of body language to depict emotions. Her practice revolves around highlighting the beauty of the uncurated and often overlooked fragments of life found in solitude and transitory moments.

She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from the University of the Philippines Diliman, graduating magna cm laude with an Outstanding Thesis award.
