'FORGOTTEN ISLAND' WILL FEATURE FILIPINO MYTHOLOGY! ๐ต๐ญโค๏ธ
Nightfam! For the first time ever, a major Hollywood studio is bringing the mystical world of Philippine mythology to a global audience.
DreamWorks Animation has dropped the first-look trailer for its upcoming feature, "Forgotten Island," and it is a massive milestone for Filipino representation in cinema.
Scheduled for a theatrical release on September 25, 2026, the film follows two lifelong best friends, Jo (voiced by H.E.R.) and Raissa (voiced by Liza Soberano), who find themselves stranded on the magical island of Nakali.
The story is deeply rooted in local folklore, featuring legendary creatures like the Manananggal (voiced by the iconic Lea Salonga).
It marks the feature directorial debut of Filipino-American filmmaker Januel Mercado, who co-directs the film with Joel Crawford after previously co-directing Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.
The "Forgotten Island" ensemble is a powerhouse of Filipino and diaspora talent, including: Manny Jacinto and Dolly de Leon, Jo Koy and Ronny Chieng, and Amielynn Abellera.
For generations, Filipino kids have grown up seeing these myths as local legends; now, they get to see them treated with the same Hollywood magic as Shrek or Kung Fu Panda.
Can't wait to see this, Nightfam! ๐ต๐ญโจ
