TEATRO MALOLENYO
Backgrounder

TEATRO MALOLENYO (TM) is a breakaway group from Dulaang Malolos (DM) which was on the forefront of the community theatre movement in Bulacan in late 1970s. Johnny Jose Cruz was co-founder/artistic director for both. in 1986 and different people took over BK. Upon his return in 2002, he revived DM for the street/passion play HESUKRISTO. When DM became untenable In 200

3, Cruz formed Teatro Malolenyo. First production was LOS MALOS, about the heroes in the history of Malolos during the Spanish and American Occupation. It was shown for 5 weekends at the Bulacan Capitol Gymnasium and was reshown at DOT Intramuros. Cruz again left for the U.S. in 2004 and returned in 2011. The 150th birth anniversary of Jose Rizal is a fitting celebration to revive TM as a foundation with the production of ANG PAG-IBIG NI LEONOR RIVERA. The Province of Bulacan is sponsoring the production, inasmuch as it is in line with their agenda of preserving our historic and cultural heritage.
