MALAY DISTRICT CROWNED OVERALL CHAMPION AT WAAAM 2026

WESTERN, AKLAN — Malay District dominated the 2026 Western Aklan Athletic Association Meet (WAAAM), emerging as the Overall Champion after securing an impressive 75 gold medals in the Elementary and Secondary divisions and 12 gold medals in the Paragames.

The Malaynon athletes displayed exceptional talent, determination, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the competition, bringing pride and honor to the municipality.

The official medal tally placed Malay District at the top of the competition, as athletes from various schools delivered winning performances across different sporting events. Their victories reflected months of intensive training, teamwork, sacrifice, and commitment from athletes and their support teams.

Municipal Mayor Hon. Frolibar S. Bautista and the Special Education Fund (SEF) provided vital support to Malay’s sports programs, helping athletes access resources and opportunities needed to train, compete, and excel.

Principal-in-Charge of the District Democrito V. Barrientos II also guided and supported the district’s sports program, working with school heads, district sports coordinators, coaches, assistant coaches, trainers, teachers, parents, chaperons, and other stakeholders in preparing the athletes for the competition.

Behind every medal stood countless hours of training, early preparations, sacrifices, setbacks, and determination. Coaches and trainers sharpened the athletes’ skills, while parents, teachers, and school personnel provided encouragement and support throughout the competition.

The achievement also highlighted the collective effort of the entire Malay District sports community. From the playing field to the training grounds, every member of the delegation contributed to the district’s successful campaign.

With 87 gold medals across Elementary, Secondary, and Paragames, Malay District closed WAAAM 2026 with a strong statement of athletic excellence and unity.

DEPED MALAY DISTRICT EARNS MULTIPLE DRRM FRONTLINERS’ SERVICE AWARDS

MALAY, AKLAN — The Department of Education (DepEd) Malay District received multiple DRRM Frontliners’ Service Awards 2026 during the Malay MDRRMC PAGPAHAEGA 2026 held on July 31, 2026, recognizing the district’s efforts in strengthening disaster preparedness, response, and resilience in schools and communities.

The awards highlighted the district’s sustained implementation of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) programs aimed at protecting learners and personnel and promoting safe and resilient learning environments.

DepEd Malay District’s recognition reflected the collective work of school heads, teachers, DRRM coordinators, personnel, and stakeholders who participated in disaster preparedness activities, emergency response efforts, risk reduction initiatives, and resilience-building programs.

The district also worked closely with the Malay Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), the local government, and partner agencies in strengthening coordination and preparedness for disasters and emergencies.

The recognition underscored the importance of collaboration among schools, government agencies, and community stakeholders in protecting lives and maintaining the continuity of education during emergencies.

DepEd Malay District dedicated the achievement to the personnel and partners who continue to support its DRRM initiatives and promote a culture of preparedness and resilience across schools.

DEPED MALAY DISTRICT TRAINS SCHOOL SECURITY PERSONNEL ON EMERGENCY RESPONSE AND SAFETY

MALAY, AKLAN — The Department of Education (DepEd) District of Malay strengthened its school safety and emergency preparedness initiatives through a Capability Training for School Security Personnel (Watchmen) and Barangay Tanods on School Safety, Basic First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Fire Safety, and Basic Arnis Defensive Techniques.

The training received support from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Malay, headed by Mayor Frolibar S. Bautista, and the Malay Municipal Police Station, led by Lt. Col. Orlando A. Carag Jr., Chief of Police.

The capability-building activity equipped school security personnel and barangay tanods with practical knowledge and skills to respond to emergencies and critical incidents within and around school premises.

Participants underwent lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises covering school safety and emergency response, basic first aid, basic life support, fire safety, and defensive techniques. The training emphasized the importance of quick, appropriate, and coordinated responses in protecting learners, teachers, personnel, and other members of the school community.

Police personnel led sessions on school safety and response during critical incidents, while other police officers facilitated basic skills enhancement and defensive techniques. FO3 Reymon Clamano discussed basic fire safety for schools, while the Philippine Red Cross – Boracay-Malay Chapter conducted the Basic Life Support lecture and demonstration.

The Malay Municipal Police Station also demonstrated basic Arnis defensive techniques to strengthen participants’ awareness of appropriate defensive responses during emergencies.

Among the resource persons were PSMS Rosalito Jun Montano, PSMS Gregorio Ventura, and the Malay SWAT Team; PCPL Mamerto S. Mendez, PAT Leonie P. Gamayao, and PAT Kevin T. Delfin; and representatives from the Philippine Red Cross and Malay Municipal Police Station.

The DepEd District of Malay also recognized the support of Hon. Grengo Gelito, Sangguniang Bayan Member of Malay, for his continued assistance in advancing school safety and disaster preparedness initiatives.

The activity highlighted the importance of collaboration between DepEd, the local government, law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and community partners in creating safer and more resilient schools.

Through continued capability-building, DepEd Malay aims to ensure that school personnel are not only prepared to teach but are also equipped to respond when emergencies occur.

✅ Every parent or legal guardian of an enrolled learner is considered a member of the Homeroom and School PTA.

✅ The PTA serves as an important partner of the school in promoting the welfare, safety, and holistic development of our learners through active parent-school collaboration.

✅ Any PTA contribution, when approved following the prescribed DepEd process, is VOLUNTARY. No learner shall be denied enrollment, participation in school activities, or any school service due to non-payment of voluntary contributions.

We encourage every parent to actively participate in PTA meetings, programs, and activities as your involvement greatly contributes to the success of our school community.
