In Pilipinas Kong Mahal, Carlo Tanseco returns to the Rizal Matchbox, one of the defining images of his practice.

Eight individual works respond to the lyrics of a song embedded in the collective memory of generations of Filipinos. Arranged in a deliberate lyrical sequence, they form four corresponding red-and-blue pairings, each work complete in itself.

Tanseco does more than illustrate the song. He transforms it.

Rizal, the matchbox, and symbols drawn from Filipino history, faith and everyday life are brought into new relationships. Through transformation and juxtaposition, familiar words acquire new associations and meanings.
For Tanseco, recognition is never the conclusion. It is where looking begins.

At the center is Rizal, whose enduring presence reminds us that ideas matter, words have consequences, and conviction requires courage.
The matchbox gives that proposition form. Ordinary and familiar, it holds the possibility of ignition.

Here, the lyrics become the spark.
At a moment when the ideals of nationhood are continually tested, Pilipinas Kong Mahal asks us to reconsider the familiar language of patriotism.

What does it mean to say Pilipinas kong mahal — and still mean it?
Familiarity is not finality.

DIVERGENCE brings together ten artists, joined by one surprise guest artist to be revealed on opening night, in an exhibition that celebrates the richness of artistic individuality.

True to its title, Divergence explores the beauty of moving in different directions. The word signifies a separation of paths, perspectives, and ideas, where differences are not barriers but sources of creativity and inspiration. Each participating artist follows a distinct artistic journey, resulting in works that reflect unique experiences, techniques, and personal expressions.

From contemporary interpretations to traditional influences, abstract explorations to figurative storytelling, the exhibition showcases ten diverse styles and approaches, demonstrating that there is no single path in art. Instead, it is through contrast, diversity, and individuality that meaningful dialogue emerges.

Adding to the excitement, a special guest artist will be unveiled during the exhibition opening, offering visitors an unexpected highlight and an additional perspective to this vibrant collection.

We Are Not Destroyers But Creators — running through July 29, 2026 at J Studio — offers a powerful look into Marius Black’s vibrant narrative world.

​Known for his signature "Manila Ukiyo-e" style, Marius Black bridges classical Japanese woodblock print aesthetics with the raw, beating heart of Philippine street life. His contribution highlights the beauty in everyday urban struggle, dignity in ordinary labor, and the resilient human spirit found across local neighborhoods.

​From hand-painted ink-and-watercolor scenes of street vendors, commuters, and tricycles to imaginative pop-culture samurai portraits, abstract pieces, and assemblage toys, Marius' works celebrate the extraordinary in the mundane. Aligning with the show’s theme of transformation, his practice also extends to intricate mixed-media assemblages constructed from discarded urban materials—reclaiming cardboard, fabric scraps, and found objects into rich architectural landscapes. Together with his expressive color studies, Marius shows that through creative discipline, we continually rebuild and transform the world around us.
