Blaise Zamora (b. 1997) is a Filipino visual artist from Quezon City, Philippines. He earned his Bachelor in Fine Arts degree from the University of the Philippines, Diliman in 2018 and has pursued his art career since then. Zamora often uses the image of the human hand as his primary subject in his oil paintings, as he sees hands as the best storyteller of a person’s journey. From unconscious thoughts and mannerisms to beliefs, the hand is always there to genuinely express these.

Mark Dawn Arcamo (b. 1983), a Filipino visual artist, graduated in 2006 with a degree in Fine Arts from the Far Eastern University (FEU) in Manila. An active participant in the Philippine art scene since 2008, his visual collage works are known for its distinct and recognizable style — various, recurring elements are spliced together in a harmonious blend where geometric shapes and assorted body parts take center stage, likewise creating a unique visual language that is both abstract in concept yet familiar to the human mind. Arcamo’s oeuvre examines the psychological and the human, often placing them against a restructured reality that is both real and imagined. His most recent works explore the relationship between humanity, technology, objects, and the ways they manage to influence, dictate, and give meaning to our lives. In 2003, Arcamo was awarded Second Prize at the 36th Shell National Students Art Competition under the Watercolor category, and was also a finalist in numerous other competitions, among them the 19th PLDT-DPC Visual Arts Competition in 2004. He hosted his first solo exhibition titled Mental Experiments in 2013, since then he has had a number of successful & well-received exhibitions.

Demi Padua (b. 1977) is a multimedia artist & painter who graduated from Far Eastern University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts, the contemporary artist infuses his hyper-realistic figurations with abstractionist style, to create art that catches the viewer’s eye and holds them in a mesmerizing trance. His artistic style draws from figurative art and his childhood past time of compiling things together. “ When I was a kid, we didn’t really have money so the toys I had were often broken. So I would tear them apart and combine them together and create something new,” shares Padua. While he started out with abstractionism, his work is now known for the high levels of detail each piece has. He paints faces conveying different emotions, layered underneath photo-realistic materials that reveal each individual’s identity. This deviation from the traditional figurative style is what makes Padua’s art distinctly his. By incorporating abstraction, he is able to tell stories from his childhood while being proudly different.

Diversity marks the ethos of this year-ender group exhibition by 8Rooms and Provenance Art Gallery. Far from advancing a single unifying theme, medium, or artistic context, it thrives in multiplicity instead. What emerges is an exhibition that affirms art as a stronghold of our tales—no matter who we are, no matter what stories we may carry within.

The artists featured in this show hail from various junctures of Philippine contemporary art. Some emerging, others seasoned. A good number of them work with canvases and representational forms, the rest with sculptural formats and abstraction.

Across such diversity, the artists in “A Tale of Views” unite on common intent. Whether through canvas, paper, epoxy, figurative imagery, or nonrepresentational cues, the tenor is clear: they deploy their dexterity in their own visual languages not only to tell their own stories, but also to champion the lives and histories of the Filipino.
