I remember after graduating from high school, I dreamed of going to a university like UST.
But at that time, I had to be practical. I needed to choose a school that wasn’t too expensive at malapit sa bahay. yung tipong if I didn’t have money for pamasahe or baon, I could just walk home. (At buti nalang talaga 😂)
My brothers and I ended up studying at STI Makati, and we were lucky na kinaya din namin ang tuition dun. I’m still grateful for the education and experiences we had there. Swerte din kahit sa Registrar, Librarian at Guidance!
I still carry that same dream today, pero this time, it’s for Rei, my daughter.
Not specifically UST, or any particular university.
My dream and goal now? When it’s her turn to choose a college, I want her to be able to choose based on where she wants to go and what she wants to pursue, not based on what we can afford.
I want her to have options.
Because I know what it feels like to have a dream, but also know that practicality has to come first.
Maybe that’s one of the things I’m working hard for now. So that one day, kapag sinabi niyang,
“Bruh, dito ko gusto mag-aral.”
I can simply say, “Sige ‘teh. Let’s make it happen.”
