“In Full Bloom” by Kenneth Montegrande runs at Galerie Joaquin Rockwell.🎨

There will be an Artist Reception this Friday, May 15 at 5pm.

Arrives at a quieter and more reflective threshold in a career long defined by turbulent seas, luminous horizons, and gestural abstraction. Timed with Flores de Mayo, the exhibition marks the artist’s first sustained engagement with floral imagery—though, as with much of Montegrande’s practice, the shift feels less like a rupture than a natural evolution.

For over a decade, Montegrande has cultivated a visual language rooted in emotional weather: dramatic cloudscapes, radiant seascapes, and faith-inflected abstractions that have drawn comparisons to J.M.W. Turner for their atmospheric handling of light. Yet flowers have quietly existed within the artist’s orbit for years. Raised among the gardens tended by his grandmother and aunts in Ermita, Manila, Montegrande approaches the floral form not as decoration, but as metaphor—an image of endurance, transformation, and spiritual becoming.

The exhibition will run from May 12-23, 2026 at Galerie Joaquin Rockwell.

In “Petalia”, they unfold slowly, almost like something remembered at Galerie Joaquin Podium. 🌺

Petalia unfolds in a slower register. It asks the viewer to meet it halfway, to stay a little longer than usual. At first glance, the works may seem still, but with time, they begin to shift. Light gathers and recedes. Depth reveals itself in layers. A petal, once familiar, becomes something less certain—more atmospheric than defined, more remembered than seen.

“Petalia” Exhibit runs from May 2 - May 17 , 2026 at 3rd Level, The Podium, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.

Some images arrive fully formed, and then there are those that take their time—unfolding slowly, almost imperceptibly, like something remembered rather than seen. Petalia belongs to the latter. It draws together artists who move within this quieter rhythm, where the act of painting becomes a process of return, of revision, of staying with an image long enough for it to shift.

There is an air of familiarity that hums beneath the works, but it never settles into certainty. What is offered instead is a kind of gentle distance—a refusal to fully declare. The paintings hold themselves with restraint. They do not rush toward resolution. They linger in the in-between, where form softens at the edges and color breathes into space. You begin to notice the small decisions: where a stroke stops short, where another dissolves, where silence is allowed to remain.

A look back at the A Burst of Summer mini workshop 🌞, held on April 19 at Galerie Joaquin Opus.

The exhibition gathered works centered on light, color, and atmosphere—where the feeling of summer was expressed through form rather than direct imagery. Each piece invited viewers to slow down and experience how brightness and warmth can shape perception.
