Hi! Iโm Hoben Sampang โ a junior medical intern and a ceramic artist. Balancing the hospital and the studio has taught me more than I expected, and here are a few practical things Iโve learned from doing both medicine and the arts.

Ceramics teaches me that consistency matters more than talent โ proper wedging, steady hands, clean tools. Medicine feels the same: clear notes, organized tasks, and timely follow-ups make the biggest difference during duty. The basics arenโt glamorous, but they mean everything.

Clay dries when you leave it too long; patients can deteriorate if you delay whatโs important. Balancing studio hours and hospital duties taught me to prioritize, to pause when needed, and to return with intention. Iโm learning to manage energy, not just time.

Centering clay, throwing cylinders, trimming bases may look simple, but they train your muscle memory. Medicine mirrors this: doing proper physical exams, writing good referrals, presenting cases โ the only way to get better is through consistent repetition. Progress looks slow, but itโs real.
As someone who experience both paths โ the wards and the studio โ it would mean a lot to share this moment with you. I hope you can join us in celebrating not only the SLMC Global โ Institute of Neurosciencesโ 16 years of excellence, but also the artistry, passion, and humanity that live within our medical community.
