This ArtSpeak session will explore how institutions and artist-led initiatives foster artistic development and socio-cultural discourse through art education. Featured in the roundtable dialogue are Emmanuel Garibay of Linangan Art Residency and Mark Justiniani of Tungtung Alon Art Foundation. They will be joined by Abdulmari “Toym” Imao Jr, Dean of the UP College of Fine Arts, and Ma. Victoria T. Herrera, Director and Chief Curator of the Ateneo Art Gallery and Ateneo Fine Arts lecturer.

This ArtSpeak session is organized in line with “Orion in Sight: A View of Collective Work” on view at the 3F Ateneo Art Gallery (Fredesvinda Almeda Consunji Gallery, Ambeth R Ocampo Gallery, Elizabeth Gokongwei Gallery, and Alicia P Lorenzo Gallery) until 18 October 2026.

It is completely normal to feel scared when starting a new piece. We look at a blank canvas and immediately worry that we will ruin it, or that our skills won't match the big picture inside our heads.

But hiding from the canvas won't make the art happen. The secret to breaking through fear is giving yourself permission to make a total mess. Paint a bad stroke, mix the wrong colors, or sketch something silly. You can easily fix a messy page, but you can’t fix an empty one.

Let go of the pressure to be perfect today. Just let your hands play and see where they take you. 🎨
