Himig at Sayaw 2026 is an annual cultural and theatrical showcase of the ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ข๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ ๐ซ๐จ-๐๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ฒ (๐๐๐๐), ๐๐ง๐ข๐ฏ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ก๐ข๐ฅ๐ข๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ฌ ๐๐๐งฬ๐จ๐ฌ (๐๐๐๐), which brings together student organizations in a night of performance, advocacy, and artistic expression.
This yearโs event was held on ๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ ๐, ๐๐๐๐, at Baker Hall, UPLB, where participating organizations presented their productions before a live audience. The program officially ran from 6:00 PM until approximately 2:00 AM, culminating in the awarding of major and special recognitions in front of the crowd.
๐. ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ
Following the performances, the tabulation process extended to nearly two (2) hours, due to unforeseen operational challenges. These arose from a deviation in the expected tabulation workflow, wherein score sheets were not collected after each performance, but were instead submitted collectively after all performances concluded. This situation arose from the judgesโ decision to withhold all score sheets until the completion of all performancesโan arrangement that was not anticipated by the organizers.
Additionally, the official tabulation sheet was secured with restricted access for integrity purposes, with only two (2) authorized personnel able to input and edit data. This limitation resulted in delays in permission management and data encoding. Consequently, organizers and volunteers were compelled to conduct partial manual computations, further extending the process.
Given that Himig at Sayaw 2026 consisted of ๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ฃ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ and 8 ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ, across ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ข๐ฉ๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ซ๐ ๐๐ง๐ข๐ณ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ, the tabulation process required extensive verification and consolidation, contributing to the delay.
๐๐. ๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ซ๐ง๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐๐ฉ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐๐ฌ
In the interest of transparency, the tabulation sheet was released to participants. Upon review, concerns were raised regarding the placement of certain deductions and incentives:
* Incentives and deductions related to EDs and workshops were reflected under ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ฆ๐ (๐๐%) instead of the Overall Score.
* Faculty incentives and time deductions were reflected under ๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ญ๐๐ข๐ง๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ (๐๐%).
From the organizersโ perspective, these placements were intentional, based on an announcement made on ๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ ๐, ๐๐๐๐ in the Delegatesโ Portal, wherein adjustments to the scoring mechanics were communicated and subsequently recognized by participating organizations without formal objection.
However, it was later acknowledged that:
1. The relocation of time deductions from the overall score to the Entertainment Value was not explicitly announced.
2. This omission constituted a lapse in properly communicating the finalized scoring mechanics.
Recognizing this inconsistency, the organizing body revised the tabulation sheet, resulting in changes to the ranking of awardees.
๐๐๐. ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ก๐ข๐๐ข๐ญ๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฉ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ
An appeal was raised regarding the use of firearm replicas. Upon review, three (3) organizationsโ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐, ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐โwere found to have utilized prohibited materials during their performances.
Based on the Official Primer (March 2026), the use of prohibited materials constitutes grounds for automatic disqualification. However, the organizing body had previously adopted a lenient provision, communicated during the final Educational Discussion (March 25, 2026), allowing such props under the following conditions:

- ๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ฉ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก๐จ๐ซ๐ข๐ณ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ฌ๐จ๐ง๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐ฏ๐๐ง๐ญ
Upon review:
- Only one (1) organization (MatES) fully complied with both requirements
- The remaining organizations failed to meet one or both conditions
Despite the primerโs provision on automatic disqualification, the organizing body, upon deliberation, deemed the penalty excessive, given that no harm was inflicted during the event and the organizers failed to flag the aforementioned props beforehand. Thus, the following sanctions were applied to the overall score:
* โ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ: For undeclared and unchecked prohibited props
* โ๐ ๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ๐ฌ: For declared but unchecked props
Subsequently, during the emergency meeting, the body approved: (1) A reduction of UPLB MEGโs sanction from โ10 to โ5 points, (2) Retention of UPLB SELESโ โ10 point deduction. No sanction was applied to MatES, having complied with all requirements.
๐๐. ๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ญ๐๐๐ฎ๐ฅ๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐ฎ๐ญ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ฌ
Multiple appeals were formally reviewed, including concerns on:
* Tie-breaking procedures
* Score computation methodology
* Time deductions and operational delays
* Workshop attendance and documentation
* Subjective judging categories
In response, the organizing team conducted a comprehensive review, including:
* Performance recordings and event footage
* Official documentation and attendance sheets
* Judgesโ score sheets
* Tabulation files and computation formulas
All results were subsequently retabulated to ensure accuracy and alignment with the clarified mechanics.
During a closed-door deliberation, decisions were initially finalized as non-appealable. However, in the ๐๐๐๐ โ๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ง๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ (๐๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐), the organizing heads opened the floor for manifestations, allowing the body of participating organizations to take part in the decision-making process.
While this approach ensured inclusivity and transparency, the organizing body recognizes that this deviated from standard competition protocols, and reflected a level of leniency that may have exceeded appropriate limits. Nonetheless, this decision was made in good faith, with the intent of upholding participatory governance and ensuring that all voices were heard, rather than imposing unilateral decisions.

The organizing team acknowledges that the issues encounteredโfrom tabulation delays, miscommunication of mechanics, and sanction implementationโcould have been prevented through stricter adherence to systems, clearer communication, and more structured processes.
As the organizing team overseeing this, ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ for the lapses that led to: (1) Multiple appeals, (2) Revisions in the tabulation, and (3) Changes in the final lineup of awardees.
These shortcomings do not reflect the standards that Himig at Sayaw strives to uphold. We recognize that such lapses must not be tolerated and must serve as a critical point for institutional improvement.
