UPLB Parolan

UPLB Parolan The Official page of UPLB PAROLAN. December 1978 marked the birth of a tradition in the University of the Philippines Los Baños.

The UPLB Corps of Cadets and Corps of Sponsors headed a competition among different organizations of the university through the parade of lanterns. But more than that, it had been a way of uniting every student in the university for the Yuletide season. This tradition was eventually known as the PAROLAN. A year after the event’s success, PAROLAN was officially recognized by the University Administration as one of the major activities of UPLB. It was confirmed during the speech of the former UPLB Chancellor Dr. Emil G Javier. He had stated that the three major traditions of the university are the Foundation Day held every March, the Loyalty Day on October and the PAROLAN on December. Throughout the years, the PAROLAN have served as a way of every student to express their creativity as well as their compassion for a Filipino tradition. And even after its 34th year and more, PAROLAN never loses its thrill because of the diverse theme yearly. Lanterns of varying forms and styles never fail to give color and joy to the UPLB community’s Christmas celebration. This event will live to its tradition – to give our university another significant part of history. Moreover, the spirit of Christmas can be best felt by students who would have to celebrate the holidays far from their relatives, because even so, they will be sharing the event with friends in the university that they treat as family. By this, the UPLB Corps of Cadets is not only promising fun but also a warm and heartfelt celebration of the Christmas season.
