DULAANG SIPAT LAWIN PROFILE Dulaang Sipat Lawin (DSL), the resident theater group of the Philippine High School for the Arts, was established in 1977. The name depicts the freely roaming hawks of Mt. Makiling whose broad range of sight reflects the company’s vision of aesthetics, awareness, development and social involvement that leads to a fuller sense of artistic creativity, freedom and responsibility. DSL’s repertoire includes original Filipino works, adaptations of classics, and devised performances which have been performed in several local and international theatre festivals. The students are trained in Acting, Directing, Improvisation, Stage-Production Management and Theater Theories in Junior High. To further their studies, they undergo introductory courses in Research in the Arts, such as Dramaturgy, Performance Studies, Playwriting, Machinating, and Work Immersion in Senior High School. The company’s repertoire includes original Filipino works, adaptations of classics, and devised performances. Some of the company’s recent productions of note are Mad Forest, Bata Banta Tayo Tayog BANTAYOG, Mga Lukaret ng Intramuros, Ang Unang Aswang, Rashomon, Three Sisters: Isang Noh, Ang Reyna at mga Rebelde, Paghihintay kay Godot, Sige Ma, Art, Ang Baldado sa Isla Palasan, Ondine: Nimfa ng Lawa, Makikitawag Lang Ako, Ang Pinakamakisig sa mga Nalunod sa Buong Daigdig, and Paloob, Palabas among others.

PHILIPPINE HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE ARTS PROFILE

The Philippine High School for the Arts is the only government-run secondary school for the artistically gifted Filipino youth. It is a public, secular, non-profit institution mandated to implement a general high school program combined with a special curriculum oriented to the arts. Established in June 1977, the PHSA aims to develop a core of world-class artists honed in a learning environment that harnesses the best of mainstream and alternative pedagogies. It constantly strives to develop cultural workers, with the end in view of achieving the highest standards of artistic excellence.

The school also serves as a venue for the development of critic socio-political, economic and cultural awareness, which is vital to the Filipino’s search for identity. It is committed to evolve an educational, artistic and cultural program that is primarily focused on the development and enhancement of a truly Filipino orientation, a deep sense of nationalism, and an unwavering pride as a people.
