MakiSining MakiSining is an artists' collective founded in July 2011 and based in Mount Makiling. MakiSining seeks to push the arts adapting to and thriving in Mt.

MakiSining: The Makiling Art Group is a collective of professional and amateur visual artists and student-artists based or practicing their arts in Mount Makiling. The collective was conceived as early as May 2011 until it reached its apex on 16 July 2011, which was fittingly convened at the Makiling Botanic Gardens. Makiling, to promote a healthy discussion and unrestricted sharing of ideas among

creative individuals, and to create art-related activities that are relevant to the community. Members of MakiSining are mostly professionals in other fields who pursued degrees in Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Veterinary Medicine, among others, however, have become entwined with the arts. Some were able to obtain fine arts degree (or related fields) who delve into contemporary ideas. This has become one of the unique facets of the group, which bear semblance to the multifarious science community of Los Baños slowly being coalesced by artists and cultural workers. Rodante Alarcon

MakiSining is excited to be part of the annual Likha: the Los Baños Music and Arts Festival! The collective will facilitate and spearhead the Acrylic Painting Workshop and showcase artworks with member exhibits. Senior members based in Laguna will also open their studios for the festival's art walk. MakiSining has always collaborated with the Municipal government of Los Baños on art initiatives, aiming to establish the city as an Art and Cultural Hub, alongside its reputation as a “Special Science and Nature City.” See you at the festival on April 24-26, 2026! MakiSining members will all be on board during the Likha Music and Arts Festival wit exhibits and workshops for the young Los Bañeros.

The art activities and exhibits will primarily be held at the Municipal Hall activity center with bands and performances at the hall’s facade.

Various workshops will be available during the 3 day celebration with MakiSining facilitating and spearheading the Acrylic Painting workshop on the April 26, 2026 at 9:00 am.

MakiSining’s Dalnold Laotingco, Ritche Yee, and Nova Lucernas will be at the First Nami Art Camp organized by Nami Art Gallery in partnership with Sulyap Gallery, MakiSining, and San Pablo Art Circuit. They will mentor and facilitate the overnight visual art activity.

Dalnold Laotingco is a Calbayog-born visual artist whose production is now based in Los Baños. He is also MakiSining’s former president. His visual works are acrylic and oil based with focus on social realism. His themes encompasses spiritual and moral reflections through social commentaries. He has won numerous accolades not only in Luzon but also in the Visayas.

Ritche Yee is a Los Baños based conceptual contemporary artist known for his visual dialogues through his gritty post-apocalyptic aesthetics that aims to examine and confront social and societal inequalities. Known for bringing the spirits of the streets, he has won numerous accolades including the GSIS Painting Competition 2011 Grand Prize winner for Non-representational category. He also served as MakiSining’s president in 2024.

Nova Lucernas is a Cebuana Contemporary visual artist with art production based in Los Baños Laguna. She is known for her experimentations through assemblage and abstraction with women, society, and indigenous culture and traditions as her focal artistic dialogues. In 2024, she won the grand prize at Tarlac National Art Competition and since then is working on various exhibitions in the Visayas and Luzon. She’s one of MakiSining’s active and advocacy-driven Filipina artists.

JoAn Sarmogenes is among the 46 seeds of Pangamot. The exhibition is a fundraising event for a folk gathering in Abilay Sur, Oton aptly named Kadunaan.

JoAn, although hailing from Southern Luzon, is an advocate of culture and arts from different regions and of different kinds. His current visual and performance collaborations supports and extends the initiatives around Iloilo, Bacolod, and Antique.

Kapitolyo Art Space brings together women of different light - those whose feminity and brightness illuminates the spaces, communities, and family they are in. Three of MakiSining's fierce and unapologetic women artists, Betsy-Alejo Aytin, Nova Lucernas, and Domiel Mercado will be celebrating Women's Month alongside 77 other Filipina artists in the exhibition "Untamed" Babae Collective 4th Edition" at J Studio, Makati on March 7, 2026.

The exhibition showcases the story and diversity of experiencing womanhood. MakiSining celebrates the diversity of its members with several of its women artists taking mentoring and leadership roles within and outside the collective. These three women with very active community engagement and artistic productivity is one of the many gems that MakiSining is very proud of.

Congratulations to MakiSining’s resident strong woman, entrepreneur, big sister, contemporary artist, and most importantly, loving mommy, Domiel May R. Mercado - Campos on her guest lecture at the Colegio de Los Baños today. She spoke about being an artist-entrepreneur and why circular economy is just as important as an eco-friendly alternative to the linear take-make-waste but as a intentional framework in art production. By using the closed loop aproach, artists can keep producing art without losing the peak utility of materials through repair, reuse, recycling, and upcycling.

Domiel Mercado is very active in both art and business while maintaining her advocacies and positive social partnerships with school, communities, and business through various programs and talks. MakiSining is very proud of her vision and work.

Performance and visual artist, JoAn Sarmogenes, will be at the Municipality of San Jose Buenavista - Antique for the culmination exhibit of their National Arts Month. The exhibit features artists from its own homegrown artgroup Rahmag alongside student and guest artists.

JoAn is one of MakiSining’s batch 2026 trainees that has already a number of active production works ongoing. He has been a MakiSining supporter even before joining in the applicant batch. He has been very active in art advocacies and programs not only in Luzon but also in areas of Visayas - most notably around Iloilo and Antique.

The exhibit will open today at 5:30 pm at the San Jose Business Park, San Jose Buenavista, Antique.

MakiSining’s very own Nova Lucernas will be exhibiting her work at for Isang Dosenang Dagitab - Ikalawang Yugto. The exhibition aims to examine the inspiration and art process of 12 individuals (6 female and 6 male) as well as their realities as Filipino artists.

Nova Lucernas is a Cebu born contemporary artist who is currently doing her art production in Los Baños, Laguna. She is also the winner of the 8th Tarlac National Art Competition (non-representational category) and has been a steadfast member of the MakiSining since her induction in the collective.

Isang Dosenang Dagitab will run from February 25 to March 11, 2026 at the Artistspace, Ayala Museum Annex, Greenbelt Park, Makati. Opening reception will be tonight at 6 pm.
