The Philippines celebrates 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵 (CWM) every October pursuant to 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗡𝗼. 𝟭𝟬𝟵𝟴, 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟭𝟵𝟵𝟳. The celebration aims to promote consumer awareness and provide the public and private sectors with information on policies, programs, and initiatives that affect consumer welfare.

This Consumer Welfare Month, with the theme “𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀, 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀,” highlights the importance of product safety, compliance with standards, and responsible business practices in building consumer trust and confidence. 🛡️🛍️

In support of this year’s national celebration, DTI-Quezon, through its Consumer Protection Division (CPD), will lead a series of activities aimed at strengthening consumer awareness and promoting a safer and more responsible marketplace.

August 7, 2026- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Quezon, through Negosyo Center Lopez, successfully conducted a training entitled “Business Financial Management: Strategies and Techniques for Entrepreneurial Success” at ABC Hall, Brgy. Talolong, Lopez, Quezon.
The training aimed to equip MSMEs with practical knowledge on financial planning, bookkeeping, cash flow management, and the preparation and interpretation of basic financial statements. The activity supports DTI’s mandate to strengthen the capabilities and competitiveness of MSMEs by providing relevant business development and capacity-building interventions.
The session was facilitated by the resource speaker, Ms. Mary Joy N. Villarete, Municipal Accountant of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lopez, who discussed financial planning for MSMEs and emphasized the importance of proper financial recordkeeping in sustaining a business. Participants were introduced to basic bookkeeping processes, including the proper recording of business transactions in a cash book and the preparation and recording of entries in a trial balance. The discussion also covered the preparation and basic interpretation of an Income Statement and Balance Sheet, enabling participants to better understand their business’s financial performance and financial position.
The activity was supported by the Local Government Unit of Lopez, particularly the Local Economic Development and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIPO), represented by Ms. Lovella Barbacina, and the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) headed by Mr. Richard Balanac, who delivered a message of support to the participating local MSMEs. Their continued partnership demonstrates the importance of collaboration among government agencies in providing accessible and relevant support to local entrepreneurs.
Through initiatives such as this, DTI Quezon, through Negosyo Center Lopez, continues to empower MSMEs with the knowledge and skills needed to improve financial management, strengthen business operations, and promote sustainable enterprise growth.
