This is how you use your platform for good 💙
In 2019, Jaden Smith launched a food truck called "I Love You" on his 21st birthday. But this wasn't just any food truck, it was designed to provide free vegan meals to people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles's Skid Row.
The food truck served healthy, plant-based meals including bowls of kale, carrots, and other nutritious options to the area's unhoused residents. At every pop-up, they fed over 300 people. All completely free.
The initiative was inspired by Jaden's experience working with homeless individuals alongside his dad, Will Smith, during the filming of The Pursuit of Happyness in 2006.
In 2021, Jaden announced plans to expand the concept into a full restaurant with a "pay it forward" model. "It's for homeless people to get free food," he explained. "But if you're not homeless, not only do you have to pay, but you have to pay for more than the food's worth so that you can pay for the person behind you."
The mission is simple: spread love to communities experiencing food and housing insecurity by offering fresh, high-quality, sustainable meals. As Jaden put it, "At the end of the day, having access to water and food is a human right and we're just trying to help people live a better life. So when people ask us why we do what we do, the answer is very simple: it's because I love you."
