𝙁𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝙡𝙖𝙣𝙜.

Some people still say, “Agriculture lang?” as if farming is a fallback or a lesser career. But this way of thinking is outdated and harmful. Agriculture is not just planting crops,it is a powerful industry that feeds our nation and sustains millions of lives. There is real income in farming, especially when it is supported by modern methods, technology, and strong market connections. Many farmers and agri-entrepreneurs are now earning more than those in office jobs because they have learned how to manage their farms like businesses. Agriculture is not a last resort,it is a smart and valuable choice.

We must also remember that our region is primarily agricultural. Our land is rich, our climate is favorable, and our people are skilled in farming. This is our strength. Instead of abandoning agriculture, we should develop it further. Supporting local farmers, improving irrigation, offering fair prices, and giving access to training can turn our region into a model of rural success. The more we invest in agriculture, the more we create jobs, boost our local economy, and ensure food security for future generations. Ignoring our roots means missing out on massive potential.

Most importantly, we need to change the way people, especially the youth, view farming. It is not dirty work. It is honest, essential, and full of promise. With the right support, farming can lead to financial stability, community development, and national progress. In an agricultural region like ours, we are sitting on gold,we just have to dig deeper, believe in its value, and give it the respect it deserves. Farming is not a weakness. It is our strength, and it can be our future.

𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞. 𝐒𝐢 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐲𝐨𝐧.

In many areas of Cotabato Province, tricycle fares often do not follow the official tariff set by local authorities. Instead of a standard rate, passengers are sometimes charged based on the weather, time of day, or even how far the driver feels they are traveling, regardless of the actual distance. On rainy days or during peak hours, some drivers take advantage of the situation and demand higher fares, putting commuters, especially students, workers, and market vendors, at a disadvantage. This inconsistent pricing creates confusion and financial burden for regular passengers who rely on tricycles as their daily mode of transportation.

It is important to recognize that not all tricycle drivers engage in this practice. There are still many who show honesty, fairness, and professionalism in their work. These drivers respect the fare matrix and treat every passenger with respect, regardless of circumstance. Unfortunately, the actions of a few who overcharge or manipulate fares reflect poorly on the rest of the tricycle community. This imbalance contributes to a loss of trust between passengers and drivers, especially when there is no clear system of complaint or monitoring.

The issue of unfair tricycle fares needs to be addressed with urgency and fairness. Local government units must strictly implement the fare tariff and ensure that it is clearly posted in every tricycle. There should also be proper channels for reporting overcharging incidents, along with penalties for those who violate fare rules. At the same time, support should be given to honest drivers through livelihood programs or fuel subsidies. A fair and transparent fare system will not only protect passengers but also uplift the reputation of the many tricycle drivers who do their jobs with dignity and honesty.

𝐍𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲’𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐘𝐞𝐭!

Nancy Catamco has long been recognized as a leader who understands the unique needs of the people in Cotabato. Coming from the indigenous community herself, she has consistently shown a deep connection to the culture, struggles, and aspirations of the Lumads and other marginalized sectors. Her leadership has been grounded in representing voices that are often unheard in traditional politics. With her background and experience, she brings a sense of identity and pride to local governance that others may overlook.

During her previous terms in office, Catamco focused on programs that aimed to uplift communities, especially in rural and far-flung areas. Her advocacy for indigenous peoples’ rights, access to basic services, and inclusive development has had a lasting impact. Whether it was through building infrastructure, supporting education, or promoting livelihood opportunities, she made efforts to bring the government closer to the people. Her visibility on the ground and willingness to listen made her a familiar and trusted figure among her constituents.

In a time when politics often feels distant and disconnected, leaders like Nancy Catamco offer a sense of stability and sincerity. Her return to public service is not just about continuity, but about bringing back a leadership style rooted in empathy and grassroots engagement. For a province that continues to face social, economic, and cultural challenges, the question is not why she is running again, but rather why we would not welcome back a leader who has proven her dedication to serving the people.

𝙎𝙆: 𝙎𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙩 𝙨𝙖 𝙆𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙖𝙣 𝙤 𝙎𝙖𝙠𝙞𝙩 𝙣𝙜 𝙆𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙮?

The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) was established to give the youth a voice in governance and a chance to participate in community development. However, it has often been criticized for becoming a breeding ground for early political corruption. Because many SK officials are young and inexperienced, they may be easily influenced by older politicians or tempted by access to public funds. Instead of learning good governance, some are exposed to questionable practices at an early stage, which can affect their values and leadership approach in the future.

Another major issue is the poor quality and limited scope of SK projects. Many initiatives are low-cost and lack long-term impact. Budget allocations are often spent on one-time events such as sports tournaments or pageants, rather than programs that can create lasting change. While these activities may temporarily engage the youth, they fail to address deeper issues such as education, livelihood, mental health, or environmental concerns. The lack of innovation and depth in project planning raises questions about whether the SK is truly meeting the needs of young people.

In most barangays, SK leadership tends to focus only on basketball and volleyball activities, sidelining other youth interests and opportunities. This narrow scope excludes many young people who might prefer arts, technology, community service, or entrepreneurship. Without diverse and sustainable programs, the SK fails to empower the broader youth sector. To truly serve its purpose, the SK must go beyond sports and entertainment and begin investing in meaningful, inclusive, and lasting initiatives that uplift young people and their communities.

This raises a deeper question: are we genuinely developing future leaders, or are we just creating a younger version of the same broken system? When resources are wasted and opportunities are lost, the public begins to wonder: Do we really need them?
