Thank you, FAMAS, for this well-deserved recognition for Matet, a showbiz ICON in her own right
🎬✨ Congratulations, Matet ! ✨🎬
The Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences (FAMAS) proudly honors Matet de Leon as one of the FAMAS Child Icons for Philippine Cinema—a tribute to an extraordinary artist whose impact began in childhood and continues to resonate today.
Matet’s journey in Philippine cinema began in 1986 with her debut in I Love You, Ma, I Love You, Pa, which also introduced her alongside her siblings Lotlot and Ian. She soon appeared in several horror films that showcased her natural talent and versatility. Her breakthrough came with Bunsong Kerubin, where her heartfelt performance earned her a Best Child Actress nomination at the 1988 FAMAS Awards. That same year, she starred alongside the legendary Fernando Poe Jr. in One Day, Isang Araw, further solidifying her place in the hearts of Filipino moviegoers.
As she matured, Matet seamlessly transitioned into a respected supporting actress, often portraying the loyal and relatable best friend of lead characters—a role so consistent and beloved that she earned the nickname “Best Friend ng Bayan.” Her ability to bring humor, warmth, and sincerity to every role has made her an enduring and cherished figure in the industry.
Today, FAMAS celebrates not only your early brilliance but your continued dedication to the art of storytelling. Thank you, Matet, for inspiring generations with your talent, humility, and enduring charm.
Mabuhay ka, Matet de Leon, our FAMAS Child Icon of Philippine Cinema! 🎉🎥
