This , we celebrate every makiambungon in the country, especially in Western Visayas, who, for the love of the arts, have dedicated and continue to dedicate their talents to preserving and promoting our natural and cultural heritage. We value their artistry not only as creative output but also as cultural labor that stands shoulder to shoulder with all others. May their canvas always be full and their imagination ever flowing.

Last December 16, 2025, CIANO: A Hiligaynon Musical found a home at Philippine Science High School, Iloilo, and what unfolded was something we will carry with us for a long time.

From the first note to the final bow, the students were alive; laughing, leaning forward, reacting, feeling. You could see it in their eyes: they were not just watching history, they were connecting to it. Many were moved by the story of Graciano Lopez Jaena. A hero too often misunderstood, now seen through a fuller, more human lens.

Our actors poured their hearts into every role, delivering powerful live singing, accompanied by live musical instruments that filled the space with energy and emotion. It wasn’t just a performance, it was a shared experience between stage and audience, where every lyric and line mattered.

This is why Hubon Taliambong Community Theater exists. Guided by decades of artistic mastery, we are committed to bringing our Filipino stories, told in our own language, grounded in our own history... to the mainstream. In a time when foreign narratives dominate, nights like this remind us that our stories are just as compelling, just as beautiful, and deeply necessary.

CIANO is more than a musical.
It is education.
It is advocacy.
It is a celebration of Hiligaynon identity and Filipino pride.

To the incredible students, teachers, and audience of Pisay Iloilo, salamat guid for your openness, your energy, and your heartfelt response. You reminded us why we do what we do.

LOOK | History, art, and music converged in Iloilo as Graciano López Jaena’s legacy was revisited through words, scholarship, and song.

Marking the 169th birth anniversary of Iloilo-born journalist and propagandist Graciano López Jaena, historians, cultural advocates, and members of the academe gathered at the National Museum of the Philippines–Western Visayas for the launch of “Graciano’s Dirty Fingers", authored by Emmanuel A. Lerona. The book offers a contemporary, archival-historiographical reexamination of Jaena. His ideas, contradictions, and enduring relevance in Philippine history.

Formally accepted by representatives of the Iloilo City and Provincial Government Units and the Dr. Graciano López Jaena Foundation, Inc., the launch featured a panel of respected scholars who deepened the discourse on Jaena’s role in shaping national consciousness, literacy, and resistance through his essays, speeches, and the founding of La Solidaridad.

Adding a powerful artistic layer to the event was Hubon Taliambong Community Theater, who delivered a special musical performance featuring original songs from “Ciano”. A Hiligaynon musical tribute that brought Jaena’s firebrand spirit to life on stage. Their performance underscored how history continues to breathe through community art, music, and collective memory.

From the book pages to the performance stage, “Graciano’s Dirty Fingers” reminds Ilonggos—and Filipinos—that remembering heroes is not just about looking back, but about re-reading, re-singing, and re-engaging history for the present.
