Meet the Artists: Linangan sa Iloilo
Batch Samo-Samo
Culminating Exhibit | December 20, 2025 at ILOMOCA
Anza Palma | Molo, Iloilo
For Anza Palma, her biggest takeaway from Linangan sa Iloilo came from mentor Charlie Co, who emphasized that artists must take care of their health and well-being. His message was clear and powerful: how can you enjoy the fruits of your labor if you’re not alive to experience them? You should enjoy what you do while you’re living.
Anza sees the artist’s role as expressing not only themselves but also the emotions and ideas of their time and the people around them. Through her self-expression, she gives awareness to her community and connects with people who feel and think as she does. For Anza, art is a bridge between personal truth and collective experience.
Yzah Martina Calunsod | Molo, Iloilo
The most important lesson for Yzah Martina Calunsod was to create art for herself first and foremost—not to create art that caters to society or for society’s approval. She cites mentors Cezar Arro and Mark Justiniani, who taught her to balance creating from the heart and creating with the mind. When you create, your first audience is yourself. The first person you have to please is yourself. You have to feel pleasure and fulfillment in what you do.
Looking to the future, Yzah sees herself creating art—whether through writing, painting, or drawing—that somehow voices the wants and needs of the community she is part of. She hopes that one day she can also share her art and her knowledge with future generations, passing on what she has learned through Linangan to those who will come after her.
