Kabahin sa Kada Lak-ang Series 2 Episode 1

What does it mean to inherit a craft?

For our newest feature under Kabahin sa Kada Lak-ang (โ€œWith You in Every Stepโ€), we journey to Nagpana, Barotac Viejo to meet Miss Rofil Martinez Casipe, a nito-weaver whose hands continue a practice woven through generations.

In this first episode, Miss Rofil reflects on her earliest memories of pagrara sang nitoโ€”how tradition first found her, and how weaving slowly became more than livelihood, but part of identity, memory, and home.

Because what we inherit is not always grand. Sometimes, it begins quietlyโ€”in the hands that continue what came before.

A performance art by JoAn Sarmogenes

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ JUNE 18-21, 2026

PUTYOKAN honors the fathers whose sacrifices often go unseen, whose emotions remain unspoken, and whose love is expressed through quiet endurance. The installation becomes both a sculptural space and a living performance. Visitors are invited to write letters to their fathers - living, lost, or absent - which will become part of the artwork.

As our tribute to Fathers, we present a four-day durational performance in which Jo An Sarmogenes will consume only liquids, transforming fasting into an act of stamina and reflection that represents the silent sacrifices many fathers carry throughout their lives.

Experience four days of reflection, endurance, and remembrance as the artwork comes to life starting June 18, 3PM, at ILOMOCA. A short closing program follows on June 21, 2PM.

Iloilo, hampang ta!

The Japan Foundation, Manila is bringing its latest travelling exhibition for the young and young at heart to Iloilo! OMOCHA: Japanese Toys Today offers a wide-ranging introduction to toys (โ€œOmochaโ€ in Japanese), from the history of toys cherished across generations, to the latest toys, infused with modern technologies and ideas. Toys, which emerged in the context of popular culture during the Edo period, were originally created as objects to pray for the healthy growth of children. Over the years, they have evolved in various ways, coming to serve not only as a fun way for children and adults to play together, but also as tools for learning and development. Being a source of play for adults as well-becoming multi-faceted items, they too play an important role in different settings across many peopleโ€™s lives.

This exhibition is part of the celebration of the 70th anniversary of Philippines-Japan Friendship.

MUNDANE: A Father & Son Conversation | Exhibition Opening Recap

The opening celebrated a compelling visual dialogue between father and son, by Dr. Malbar G. Ferrer and Magin Benedict Ferrer, inviting guests to reflect on how people interact with and are shaped by the world around them. Through powerful images and shared perspectives, MUNDANE reveals how beauty, memory, hope, and meaning quietly emerge from the ordinary moments we often overlook.

In collaboration with GKFIโ€”a non-profit organization dedicated to holistic community development through spiritual, educational, medical, and cultural initiativesโ€”the exhibition continues a shared commitment to bringing the arts closer to communities and fostering meaningful connections through creative expression.

The exhibition remains on view at the museum shop area until June 17. We invite you to experience this thoughtful photographic journey and discover the extraordinary stories hidden within everyday life.

What we inherit only survives when someone chooses to continue it.

As Masa Hurma comes full circle, we look beyond clay and toward continuity-- how craft holds memory, identity, and community. This is only the first step in Kabahin sa Kada Lak-ang, a growing series on the everyday practices that shape who we are, and the people who carry them forward.

Stay tuned for more stories.
