08232026 | 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time | San Antonio de Padua Sub-Parish

Matthew 16:13-20; In today's gospel, we learned that Jesus didn’t leave us alone - as a Church or individually. He provided for the entire Church not only when he poured out the Holy Spirit on us but also when he made Peter and his successors the “rock.” The pope is the keeper of the teachings of the Church and a minister of God’s grace and mercy. He is also our father in faith, our guide and our example. But most of all, he is a reflection of God’s own fatherly care for us, His loving children.

Matthew 16:13-20 ; In today's gospel, Jesus founded His Church upon Peter, making him the first pope. In biblical tradition, a change of name signifies a new mission and identity. Simon, son of Jonah, was now to be called Peter—Petros in Greek and Cephas in Aramaic—meaning “rock.” Peter became the solid foundation upon which Christ’s Church would be built. No pagan power, false god or earthly ruler would ever overcome what Christ established with divine authority.

Matthew 15:21-28; In today's gospel, it teaches us four valuable learnings: Do not lose heart when prayers seem unanswered right away. Approach God honestly with your pain and deep need for His help. Trust that persistence in faith unlocks boundless divine compassion. Lastly, always remember: God never permits more than we can endure by His grace.
