AMORPHOPHALLUS DECLINATUS IN PALAWAN | Watercolour on Arches hot pressed paper; 14x20cm
Contrary to popular opinions, this is not an onion but it’s called Amorphophallus Declinatus. This gem is endemic to Palawan and is related to the famous Amorphophallus Titanum (which is the largest unbranched inflorescence in the world)! My super talented cousin, travelled there to capture this beauty and taught me these nerdy stuff, for more info on plants please find him, I can only nerd out as much as I had written above 😂🤣😂🤣!
Painting this beauty is both exciting and patience testing! I love playing with layers and utilising the transparent and semi-transparent qualities of each colour to create the effect you see here! The painstaking efforts to constantly reference the original photo and my own painting throughout the 20+hours spent on this is totally worth it when it turns out the way I envisioned it to be.
PM me for commission pieces!!
