Plucking the vibrant strings of national heritage, the Silliman University Orkestra Sin Arco brings its rich, lyrical music to the stage for SILLIMAN PERFORMS @ 125: Celebrating Gratitude & Hope!

As the premier plucked-string and rondalla ensemble of Silliman University, Orkestra Sin Arco breathes fresh life into traditional and contemporary Philippine music through the shimmering tones of the bandurria, laud, octavina, guitar, and bass. Fresh from their featured appearance at the national summit Musikapuluan | Sugilanon: A National Summit and Dialogue on Sustaining the Ecology of Living Philippine Music Traditions, the ensemble continues to safeguard and elevate our regional soundscapes.

Under the musical direction of Asst. Prof. Mathilda L. Erojo, Orkestra Sin Arco will serenade audiences in an evening celebrating 125 years of grace, heritage, and artistic excellence!

With landmark appearances at the national Musikapuluan | Sugilanon summit and cross-cultural exchanges with Japan’s celebrated Yuko Takahashi Dance Company, SUDC continues to define excellence in contemporary and folk movement. DUMAGUETE CITY — Silliman University, in partnership with Vancouver-based contemporary dance company Co.ERASGA, successfully concluded a dynamic two-day intensive workshop series on August 18 and 19, 2026, drawing strong participation from student artists, educators, and local cultural workers across Negros Oriental.

Organized as part of the Philippine tour for the transcontinental production Accumulation, the sessions served as an immersive masterclass laboratory across visual arts, experimental sound design, stage management, contemporary movement, technical lighting, and applied theatre.

The series opened at the Ariniego Art Gallery with French visual artist Marc Gérenton, who guided participants in reinterpreting found objects and recycled materials into expressive visual forms. This was followed by French composer Emmanuel Mailly’s exploratory music session on acoustic manipulation and live looping. Concurrently, veteran production manager Jai Avila led a technical walkthrough on dance cueing and prompt book management, while Co.ERASGA founding artistic director Alvin Erasga Tolentino facilitated "Body as Earth" at the SU Dance Studio, exploring bodily intuition, memory, and ecological connection.

The second day engaged attendees at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium and Ariniego Art Gallery. Canadian technical director Tory Ip shared North American production standards in stage lighting and technical ex*****on, while University of Winnipeg Assistant Professor Dr. Reynaldo G. Gupa concluded the series with a workshop on applied theatre as a vehicle for community dialogue and climate consciousness.

Following the masterclass series, the international ensemble will stage the full-length production of Accumulation today, August 20, 2026, at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium, with performances scheduled at 2:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Tickets and seat reservations are available at the Cultural Affairs Office (College of Performing and Visual Arts Hall) and at the theater lobby before showtime.

Photos from 文化芸術交流公演 (Cultural Arts Exchange Performance) held last July 4, 2026 at the Raraku Hall of the Sendai City Taihaku Ward Cultural Center, Sendai, Japan. The event brought together the Silliman University Culture and Arts Council (SUCAC) and Alumni of the Silliman University Dance Troupe (SUDC) to commemorate the 日本フィリピン国交70周年記念 (70th Anniversary of Japan-Philippines Diplomatic Relations) and celebrate the 35th founding anniversary of the Yuko Takahashi Dance Company. SUCAC Director Dr. Diomar C. Abrio delivered the Guest Speaker's Opening Remarks, "From War Memories to Cultural Bridges: Building Philippines-Japan Friendship through Art, Memory, and Reconciliation." SUDC Alumni Fionabelle Marie Cabe, Ryan Christopher Abad, and Ronnie James Bughao brought Philippine indigenous and traditional folk dance to life, performing Kinugsik-Kugsik of the Manobo Tribe, Pangasinan's Binasuan, and Jota de Manileña.
