To those members of the Knives Out community who choose toxicity over sportsmanship,
I write this letter with sincere disappointment regarding the behavior that has become increasingly common among some members of the community.
Gaming is meant to be a place where people can compete, improve their skills, build friendships, and enjoy shared experiences. Achievements, whether big or small, should be celebrated as milestones that reflect a player's dedication, effort, and passion for the game. Unfortunately, some individuals have chosen to respond to the success of others with mockery, insults, and unnecessary trash talk.
It is disappointing to see players belittle the accomplishments of others simply because they disagree with them, dislike them, or believe their own achievements are greater. Mocking someone's hard work does not make another person's accomplishments more valuable. It only reflects a lack of respect and maturity.
Healthy competition is what makes esports and gaming communities thrive. Toxic behavior, personal attacks, and constant attempts to tear others down only create division and discourage players from participating. New players become hesitant to engage, dedicated players lose motivation, and the overall community suffers.
There is a significant difference between competitive banter and outright disrespect. Friendly rivalry can be entertaining and motivating, but targeting individuals, ridiculing their achievements, and constantly seeking to undermine them crosses a line that should never be normalized.
Every achievement deserves recognition because every player's journey is different. Some players invest years into improving their skills, leading teams, creating content, or contributing to the community in meaningful ways. Those efforts should not be dismissed simply because someone else chooses to view them through a lens of jealousy, arrogance, or negativity.
I hope those responsible for such behavior take a moment to reflect on the impact of their words and actions. Communities are remembered not only for the games they play but also for how they treat the people within them. Respect costs nothing, but it can make a tremendous difference.
A strong community is built by encouraging one another, competing with integrity, and recognizing that another person's success does not diminish our own.
It is disappointing to see these values ignored, but there is always an opportunity for improvement. The choice belongs to each of us.
