More about the artwork of Jes Abella

Stress - a feeling of emotional and physical tension. Anxiety - a feeling of unease, worry or fear.

One of the weaknesses I have is that I'm a very sensitive person. And going through stress and anxiety is a very rough and terrible ordeal for me. My whole life growing up and even until now, I had a massive problem with stress and anxiety.
It was never something that I really thought that I would get over, but It was something that was completely ingrained with who I am and who I was. When I was in school, I didn't want to go out to eat my lunch because It was contained in a lunchbox and I thought only small children eat in lunchboxes while all other students went outside to buy their food at the canteen.
So I'd be sick to my stomach and feel hungry all day, and when I get home, I eat my food as If I haven't eaten for days. And when I went to college, I've always been late on my first subject, worrying about how ugly I look before going to school because I was scared of people and being judged.
I always ride a trike, even it costs me more just to avoid social interactions inside a jeepney. All these decisions in my life are being made by other people, and then suddenly, I realized I couldn't keep living that way anymore.
I tried to overcome certainly not all of those anxieties but some of those anxieties over time. If you are dealing with stress and anxiety and you want to overcome those, then you have to understand that nobody cares about you. You are somebody living your life, and you're with yourself 24/7. You have to make sure you are taken care of and that you are comfortable.
Therefore, you're thinking more about your personality and appearance than other people most of the time. We people tend to think a lot of things that don't really exist. We manipulate ourselves to change things to reflect how we feel instantly. We tend to think that people see us in that same way, but the fact is nobody really cares that much. (Not to say that nobody loves you because I'm sure there are,)

Even if they judge you, does it matter? They're not part of your everyday life; they're not a part of you. They're just somebody outside of you, and it doesn't affect who you are and how you behave. People will judge you based on how you look, and that's something we need to own. There is no way we can stop people from thinking whatever they want to think.
But just be who you are, dress the way you want to dress, look the way you want to look and just be yourself and embrace it. Because the more you embrace who you are and you feel comfortable that way, then other people will start to feel that way too. If you are ever dealing with stress and anxiety right now or whatever stressful things you are thinking, just let it go and do whatever you want without caring what people are saying because it is IRRELEVANT. Your happiness and wellness is more important than what other people think.

Rizal Artworks by Roberto Lavides
Remembering the National Hero Dr. José Rizal

Magkaisa draws on its rich German-Filipino heritage of resilience, strength and dependability and is honored to provide insights of the relation between Germany and the Philippines during the time of the National Hero of the Philippines, Dr. José Rizal.
This time we take a closer look at the artwork prepared by the Filipino Artists Roberto Lavides for the celebration of the100 years José Rizal Death Anniversary in 1996 in Heidelberg.
In 1997 those artworks were transferred by the then Honorary Consul in Stuttgart to the Völkerkundemuseum in Heidelberg.

In 2007 the Director of the Museum asked Artcollector and Rizalist Mr. Klaus W. Hartung to take over those 20 artworks, the agreement was signed in 2007 as enclosed.

The collector has been in the heart of the German-Filipino cultural and art scene for a quarter of century, following the footsteps of the National Hero of the Philippines Dr. José Rizal and promoting Philippine art in Europe and in the Philippines.

Roberto Lavidez is an artist activist whose incessant interest in the life and works of Dr. Jose Rizal bespeaks in most of his artworks and writings. His Rizaliana series became the centrepiece of his personal projects namely “Requiem for Rizal”, “Birth of Freedom”, “Noli Me Tangere", “Centennial Art Tour”, and “Homage to Rizal”, all of which have successfully toured internationally in North America, Europe and Asia from 1996 to 2000.

The idea of the Phoenix to Dust is the falling to ashes, rising again, and becoming something new.
Everyone fails, everybody succeeds, everybody falls. Failure is just the start of something better; the start of new success.

To go on that journey back where we came from with our eyes always facing up the sky. And feeling not angry nor sad, but not perfectly happy, just feeling at peace of crossing over and moving on to the other side; leaving all we love, accepting that things in life are hard but life goes on even after death. In that perspective, saying goodbye lovingly, the beautiful and bittersweet acceptance of someone who is dying and knowing that the truth is already there and now is the Time.
"Death is not the greatest loss in life. The greatest loss is what dies inside of us while we live." - Norman Cousins

More about the Artwork of Jes Abella

There is a broad idea about the beauty of every day. There are small things that are always there around us; things we often overlooked. These things might appear to be ugly or scary but I believe that there is always beauty in there just like how I find beauty in things that are sad and dark. I truly believe that beautiful things require us to search for them; If we can only see those things not only for what they are but to also understand what they can be and how they could turn into the most beautiful things in life, then what a beautiful world we could build for ourselves.

And what's even more beautiful is that every day of our lives, we have the power to take pieces of those things and keep them for ourselves so that one day, we could always look back on them and remember all the memories and wonders those things brought to our lives just like when taking pictures of our love ones; we could freeze those moments that we had with them and preserve them in photographs and keep them for almost forever.

It is a record of someone's past and we become the recorder of a beautiful life that someone once lived.

This image is my very first entry for an exhibit, and that made this image very special to me; not only because of the number of hours I've spent to create this nor the daunting task of waking up at the crack of dawn for two days to take the photos. Those are things that make this image special and beautiful and meaningful in its way; through unseen things, because I believe that the most beautiful things in life require us to seek for them.
