Paulu will introduce a brief contextual background of the show, which includes his unique approach to painting and other pictorial tricks, the genesis of his art and the lure of applying cinematic conventions on acceptable stretched surfaces and its myriad narrative circumventions verging into abstraction and seriality, the conceptual theatricality of silent films versus the visionary pop of comics, and why artists are arguably bad at sports and yet find sports as the fountain of all visual spectacle, plus many other discursive detours that you’ll enjoy at the talk.

The artist talk coincides with the exhibit’s opening.

See you! đŸ‘‹đŸ»

Instinct or convention? The Garden of Id asks what we inherit, what we resist, and what we choose to grow. Featuring diverse works by Alburoto across painting, drawing, collage, and sculpture, it stages a clash of cartoon naĂŻvetĂ© and fine art gravitas—leaving open which metaphorical seeds are worth planting.

Installation views from our current exhibit “The Garden of Id” by Alburoto. Show is on view until the 18th!

Our thanks to those who pulled up to last night’s opening!

Alburoto’s “The Garden of Id” is on view until October 18.

____
Artery Art Space presents The Garden of Id, a solo exhibition by Alburoto, where the artist reflects on the pall of predestination as it weighs upon individual will and nature represented through a diverse group of paintings, drawings, mixed media, and sculptures, which allows the artist’s cheeky low-brow aesthetic to critique and cut down cultural conventionality and other philosophical quagmire.

The Garden of Id traces the conflict between nature and culture, where the instinctive - epitomized by artistic will, collides with social convention. Through painting, collage, charcoal, sculpture, and the recurring figure by Alburoto, the artist stages the tension between irony and taste. Echoing the choice made by our biblical progenitors Adam and Eve, the works ask whether cycles of struggle must be repeated, or if life may instead flow unburdened. In this Garden of Identities, branching or solitary, the question remains open: the kind of life we wish to cultivate, or rather, to plant those seeds that may be worthy of life.
