Show opens this Saturday, September 12 from 5 to 8pm 👋🏻

Artery Art Space is pleased to present “Weigh of Life” by Alburoto, a show of ironic gravitas held as counterweight to the lows of life, playing the attraction between opposites in creating a curious oversight of fact and form, and altogether showing the shortsightedness of the beautiful ideal vis-a-vis the humility of the real, where this imbalance forms a situational comedy set with Alburoto’s trademark cheeky humor.

In the words of the artist:

Colors only pop when they are set against deep shadows, just as the most vibrant highlights of our lives are enhanced by the dark times we go through.

Because of this, it becomes easier to accept my fate!

I realize that life is simply better when you balance the opposites.

Join us for a fun evening welcoming Jon Cuyson in viewing his studies for painting: Sea of Love / Dagat ng Pag-ibig. Jon is the Philippines’ official representative to the prestigious Venice Biennale in Italy this year that features 100 national pavilions around the world. As to complement his dynamic installation in Venice, Artery is proud to present these series of paintings as intimate reflections inspired by the sea as a site for love and identity.

Jon Cuyson’s Sea of Love / Dagat ng Pag-ibig (studies for painting) serve as intuitive approaches for exploring the medium as an extended field that dives into the socio-political context of the sea. The colors applied here blend the aura of aquatic life against the cold metallic spectrum of industry.

Artery Art Space is proud to present a series of studies for painting by Jon Cuyson in conjunction with Sea of Love / Dagat ng Pag-ibig, the Philippines’ official representative to this year’s prestigious Venice Biennale in Italy. The works at Artery serve as intuitive approaches for exploring painting as an extended field that dives into the socio-political context of the sea. For the artist everything is painting when it comes to establishing and extending the concept of representation, where identity becomes the contested site for engagement and discursivity that painting here provides.

Swing by from 3-6pm!
