Once a struggling high school student in Cebu whose family's finances made each semester uncertain, Lolly Beth Aparece Justiniane was discouraged by those who doubted she would amount to anything.
Today she teaches mathematics at a public high school in California, having earned a teaching license, a master's degree, and a PhD along the way.
