Herchell Gil's works explore themes of vulnerability, fragments of childhood trauma, and the complexities of womanhood through lived experience. Set within domestic spaces, her paintings reflect the realities that exist behind the walls of a house, where everyday routines continue alongside grief, trauma, and change.

Through recurring figures, symbolic objects, and intimate interiors, her works examine how domestic spaces become reflections of isolation, introspection, and personal experience. Drawing from memories, familiar objects, corners of a house, and recurring imagery, the paintings explore the relationship between the physical, emotional, and psychological, revealing how everyday spaces quietly absorb the experiences of those who inhabit them.

My work focuses on portraits and the human figure, inspired by simple moments from everyday life. These are the subjects I never get tired of painting because they feel personal, familiar, and real.

For me, painting should feel natural and enjoyable. I love the beginning stages the most — when there’s freedom to explore without worrying too much about mistakes. Instead of planning everything in detail, I prefer to paint instinctively and let the work grow on its own.

I build my paintings through layers of paint and brushstrokes, allowing every mark to stay visible as part of the final piece. I often compare my paintings to a sandwich — made of different layers that all come together to create something complete. Each work holds moments of experimentation, movement, and emotion within it.

Have you ever wonder how does one’s spend it free time? This differs from person to person. For Filipino culture, Palipas-oras is a way of utilizing the space between labor and rest. This could be associated human activities that involve one person or more.
This exhibition brings together thirteen works from fourteen different artist that highlight these in-between moments, the mundane and the trilling experience of so called life. By this exhibit, we will get to see a glimpse of how the artist would probably do to kill time.
